'An NDA was signed' Phillip Schofield paid six-figure sum to his younger lover

Phillip Schofield has paid his younger lover a six-figure sum to ensure that he cannot speak out about their relationship, it has emerged.

The Mail on Sunday has reported that the man, who was referred to only as Person X by ITV during its investigation, signed a non-disclosure agreement.

It’s understood that Phillip and the man started having a romantic relationship when the man was 20 and that they met when he was 15. The young man landed a job as a runner on This Morning, the show Phillip used to helm, when he was 19.

A lawyer acting for the former This Morning presenter has now confirmed a deal was signed last year, including a ‘mutual non-disclosure provision’ and payment to compensate the man for losses suffered.

A source familiar with the NDA said: ‘The young man has been fragile for some time… There was a payment made for various matters that followed Phillip’s decision to speak out about his relationship and as part of that, an NDA was arranged and signed.

‘It means that Phil knows his young ex will never be able to speak about their relationship so he can probably sleep a lot better at night now. He has lost a lot but imagine if the full details came out – it would be pretty cataclysmic for him.’

Phillip spoke about the affair during a BBC interview with Amol Rajan last June, insisting that he had not groomed the young man but that he was ‘utterly broken and ashamed’ about what had happened.

He said that ‘something happened’ in his dressing room one day which he will ‘regret for ever’ and that it happened ‘maybe four or five times over the next few months.’

‘I know it’s unforgivable. But we weren’t boyfriends. We weren’t in a relationship. I was really in a mess with my own sexuality at the time, and it just happened,’ he said during the interview.

Phillip has not worked on TV since admitting to the affair and lying to his ITV employers last May. At the time, he said in a statement to the Daily Mail that the relationship with the young man was ‘unwise but not illegal’.

The young man, now 27, declined to comment on the deal or any of the details within it.
