A mob chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” on Thursday, October 28, attacked the three Kashmiri students from Agra’s RBS College, who were arrested for allegedly celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in the T20 World Cup cricket match on October 24.

The three students Inayat Altaf Sheikh, Arshad Yusuf, and Shaukat Ahmed Ghani were assaulted as they were coming out of the CJM court after being remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
A sedition case has been registered against the three Kashmiri students for allegedly raising “anti-national slogans” on the Bichpuri campus of RBS College. Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code, pertaining to sedition, was slapped on the trio.

As soon as the three accused came out after the court appearance, the people present on the spot started raising slogans of Pakistan Murdabad. Raising slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, some among the crowd even assaulted the students. This prompted the police to quickly push the trio into a police car and drive off to the jail.
The crowd even tried to chase the police car. District government advocate Basant Gupta said that the Jagdishpura Police had booked the accused of sedition under sections 124A, 153A, and 505(1)(B) of the IPC and 66F of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.
