Mumbai Indians registered their second successive win in the IPL 2024 when they absolutely thrashed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai by 7 wickets. The home side chased down the steep target of 197 with 27 balls to spare. The highest scorer for MI with the bat was Ishan Kishan, who roared back to form with this knock. Kishan has been going through a tough time in the last few months. He was recently left out of the BCCI central contract list, after he did not reportedly make himself available for the Ranji Trophy despite warnings from Jay Shah and Rahul Dravid.

After his blistering half-century against RCB, Ishan Kishan finally opened up the controversy surrounding his central contract ommission and him missing out on the Ranji Trophy matches for Jharkhand.

After he took time off from the game due to mental fatigue during the T20I series against South Africa, Ishan Kishan returned to action directly in the IPL 2024 against MI. In the post-match press conference, Kishan said that he was practicing in his time off, and people were talking a lot during this absence, as many things came on social media. However, one should realize that many things are not in the hands of players.

“I was practicing. When I took time off from the game, people were talking a lot. Many things came on social media. But you should also realize that many things are not in the hands of the players,” Kishan said.

Ishan Kishan also revealed that the he utilized his time off properly and also brought about a change in his mindset. He also said that even though MI have lost three out of their five matches, they have the desire to work together as a team.

“The only thing you can do is utilise the time properly. Also the mindset to think about the previous Ishan Kishan, I would never leave a delivery in the first two overs even if they are bowling well. With time I have learnt that even 20 overs is a big game, you can take your time and you can go ahead. Even though we have lost matches, we want to work together as a team. Changes have come like even if I am not performing and if I know someone else is not performing, I talk to them. I want to know what they are thinking. So these are things which helped me in the break,” he added,.
