- Russia added Sen. Lindsey Graham to its ‘extremists and terrorists’ list
- Graham praised Russian President Putin’s top political rival Alexei Navalny – who died last week in a prison camp
- The South Carolina senator shot back at Russia following his addition to the list
Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham mocked the Russian government after being added to the country’s terrorist watchlist.
Russia added the South Carolina GOP senator to its ‘extremists and terrorists’ watchlist after he publicly blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for ‘murdering’ his political rival Alexei Navalny.
In response to reports about being added to Russia’s terrorist list, Graham posted sarcastically on X: ‘There goes all my rubles!’
‘I call your ‘terrorists and extremists’ bid and raise you ‘State Sponsor of Terrorism under U.S. law,’ Graham wrote in another post. ‘Believe it or not, 2024 is going to be a bad year for Putin’s Russia.’
He then wrote out a long list of actions the U.S. could take to harm Russia, including by providing more aid and high-end weapons to Ukraine, designating the country as a state sponsor of terrorism and expanding NATO.
Graham’s appointment to the list comes just two days after he praised Putin’s political rival Alexei Navalny, who died February 16 while serving out a prison sentence in an Arctic Russian penal colony.

Alexei Navalny, a top political rival of Putin, died while serving a prison sentence last week
Russian President Vladimir Putin ‘murdered’ Alexei Navalny, Graham said Sunday
Navalny was serving a nearly 20-year sentence on extremism charges.
‘Navalny was one of the bravest people I ever met,’ Graham said Sunday in a CBS interview.
‘When he went back to Russia he had to know he was going to be killed by Putin, and he was murdered by Putin,’ he continued.
‘President Biden told Putin, if something happens to Navalny, you’re going to pay a price.’
‘President Biden, I agree with you, the price they should pay is to make Russia a state sponsor of terrorism,’ said the senator who serves as the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
But this is not the first time Graham has run afoul of Russian law enforcement.
Russia’s Interior Ministry issued an arrest warrant for the senator in May 2023 after he told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that U.S. military aid is helping the war-torn country.
‘A video circulating online shows U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham saying during a meeting with the president of Ukraine that U.S. financial support is causing the deaths of Russian citizens,’ the Russian Interior Minister said at the time.
Graham, however, did not directly tie his sentiments to Russians dying to U.S. aid for Ukraine.
Rather, the South Carolina senator praised the aid to Ukraine as ‘the best money we’ve ever spent’ and later responded to another comment by Zelensky, saying ‘and the Russians are dying.’
