Mirakulöser Heinz Lindner rettet dem FC Basel gegen Qarabag FK einen Punkt

Der FC Basel kommt zum Auftakt der Gruppenphase in der Conference League zu einem Punkt. Die Basler spielen in Baku gegen Karabach Agdam nach einer offensiv harmlosen Vorstellung 0:0.

Die Basler konnten in der Hauptstadt Aserbaidschans zu selten das Spiel diktieren und kamen so kaum zu gefährlichen Aktionen. Die beste Möglichkeit der Mannschaft von Patrick Rahmen vergab Raoul Petretta kurz vor der Pause. Der Aussenverteidiger, ein Basler Aktivposten, scheiterte mit seinem Schuss aus spitzem Winkel am Goalie von Karabach, Schachrudin Magomedalijew.

Dass es dem FCB zumindest zu einem torlosen Remis reichte, verdankte er etwa halb seiner Defensive, halb der gegnerischen Verspieltheit. Karabach kombinierte gut und zeigte, weshalb es in den letzten acht Jahren immer in eine europäische Gruppenphase eingezogen ist. Aber es fehlte den Gastgebern im Olympiastadion an Zielstrebigkeit, um den FC Basel regelmässig in Verlegenheit zu bringen.

Lindner als Retter

Bis in die Schlussminuten hatte die Mannschaft aus Agdam ausser Halbchancen nichts aus seiner spielerischen Überlegenheit gemacht. Erst in der 84. und 94. Minute wurde Goalie Heinz Lindner richtig gefordert. Zweimal parierte der Österreicher sehr stark, zuerst einen Schuss und dann einen Kopfball.

«Wir waren in der zweiten Halbzeit gefühlt immer unter Druck», analysierte Lindner gegenüber «blue». «Es war das erwartete schwierige Spiel. Wir sind deshalb mit dem einen Punkt zufrieden.»

Neben Lindner verdienten sich auf Basler Seite auch die Innenverteidiger gute Noten. Andy Pelmard und vor allem der nach einer Gehirnerschütterung zurückgekehrte Eray Cömert stoppten die Angriffe bis zur Auswechslung des Schweizer Internationalen mit Autorität. Im Mittelfeld fehlte nicht zuletzt die ordnende Hand von Fabian Frei, der nach intensiven Wochen geschont wurde.

Erstes Heimspiel in zwei Wochen

Der eine Punkt auswärts beim wahrscheinlich schwierigsten Gegner im Rennen um den Gruppensieg ist für den FC Basel keine schlechte Sache. In zwei Wochen daheim gegen die Kasachen von Kairat Almaty, die gegen die Zyprioten von Omonia Nikosia auch 0:0 spielten, ist dann aber ein Sieg Pflicht.

Vorerst geht es für den FC Basel nach der langen Heimreise am Sonntag im Cup beim interregionalen Zweitligisten Rorschach-Goldach weiter. Eine gute Gelegenheit für den FCB, wieder einmal einen Sieg einzufahren. Der letzte liegt schon einen Monat zurück. Seither gab es eine Niederlage und vier Unentschieden.

Niederlage für Fischers Union zum Auftakt

Urs Fischer und Union Berlin ist der Auftakt in die Conference League missglückt. Der Bundesligist verlor bei Slavia Prag nach zwei Gegentreffern in der Schlussphase 1:3.

Die Berliner waren beim ersten Europacup-Einsatz nach 20 Jahren verhalten in die Partie gestartet. Erst in Rückstand und in personeller Unterzahl drehten die Berliner nach der Pause auf und erzielten in der 70. Minute durch Kevin Behrens den verdienten Ausgleich. Jan Kuchta (84.) und Ivan Schranz (88.) sorgten in der Schlussphase aber für die Entscheidung zugunsten des tschechischen Meisters.

Fischer zeigte sich trotz der Niederlage nicht unzufrieden mit der Leistung seiner Mannschaft. «Gerade in der zweiten Hälfte haben wir es echt gut gemacht», sagte der Zürcher. Nächster Gegner Unions ist in zwei Wochen Maccabi Haifa.
