What makes Liza Soberano feel ‘most beautiful’

Fresh from her Hollywood debut, Liza Soberano recently came home for just 24 hours for her latest brand endorsement.

The “Lisa Frankenstein” star led the relaunch of the Korean skincare brand Deoproce and its new “skincare beyond compare” campaign in the country.

The 26-year-old became the first Filipino ambassador of Deoproce last year, which was introduced to local consumers through ZFace Inc., its official distributorship in the Philippines.

The brand made the relaunch unique and exciting by offering attendees free skin consultation with dermatologists and beauty doctors to help assess and identify skincare issues. Attendees were then ushered to a separate hall where they were able to “shop” for products based on the earlier consultation to be applied following the famous multi-step Korean skincare routine.

Areas were divided according to skincare concerns and the corresponding skincare collection such as the Snail Recovery Line that focuses skin hydration and anti-aging, as well as the Green Caviar Line which targets acne, cellulite, and wrinkles. Other skincare lines included Snail Galactox, Skin Reveal, Core Firming, Aloe Vera, Body Serum, and Sun Care. Overall, the point of the relaunch was to show that Deoproce had a “solution for every skincare concern.”

The highlight, of course, was Liza’s arrival, appearing not jetlagged one bit and glowing in an all-white ensemble. She’s been stoking Filipino pride after earning rave reviews from the foreign press for her performance in her Hollywood debut film — from Vanity Fair calling her an “ace scene stealer,” Los Angeles Times declaring her as the “breakout star and true discovery of ‘Lisa Frankenstein,’” to Hollywood Reporter foretelling, “If ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ is any indication, we’re going to be seeing a lot more of Liza Soberano in years to come.” Indeed, here’s hoping to see Liza’s beautiful face and presence gracing more Hollywood screens soon.

Meanwhile, The Philippine STAR had an exclusive interview with Liza to talk about beauty, not just skin deep but from the inside-out.

First question, Liza, what makes this endorsement unique for you and how big of a fan are you of Korean skincare?

“It’s unique for me because I really like Korean culture, K-pop, like the entertainment industry of Korea. And I’ve always been a fan of Korean skincare because they’re just very innovative.

“And so this brand is very special for me because this is my first Korean endorsement, especially for skincare, which I think Korea is really known for.

“I feel very blessed and very honored just to be the face of Deoproce and to be part of a company that really puts importance in providing quality skincare for a diverse range of skin types and skin conditions.”

You’re known for your stunning looks, but what does beauty mean to you on a deeper level — you know, beyond the physical appearance?

“Oh, thank you! Well, for me, I think beauty is very subjective. Beauty, for me, is like something that everybody wants, everybody wants to attain.

“And for some reason, it feels like it’s always in… you can reach for it, but you can’t actually grab it. And like, a lot of people probably like to comment on my physical looks, but I hope they understand, too, that just like everyone else, I have my own insecurities, I have my own self-doubts and everything.

“People like to say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think it’s best for people to just be able to appreciate all different forms of beauty and not kind of hold one type of beauty on a pedestal. Because honestly, beauty is subjective.”

How does inner beauty contribute to your overall sense of confidence?

“I think inner beauty is what makes me feel the most beautiful and what makes me the most beautiful.

“I think that at the end of the day, like if you are a good person, you have pure intentions and you just want to do good by people, that really kind of comes out.

“People will see that, and that’s what is more attractive than the physical thing.”

Can you tell us more about your self-care practices and rituals?

Liza is flanked by Benjamin Jung (leftmost) and James Jang (rightmost), Deoproce’s overseas sales team/junior manager and overseas sales team manager, respectively, and ZFace officials (from left) Leslie Lao, group brand comptroller; Donnie Manalo – to, group marketing head; Angie Goyena, president; William Ng, chief financial officer; John Lozano, chief marketing officer; Angelica Garrido, brand assistant; and Roberta Halabaso, brand manager.

“Self-care practices — well, No. 1, would be skincare. I think that’s the most reliable thing or the most consistent thing that I can rely on because it’s easy for me to act on it as I can bring my skincare products wherever I go.

“But other forms of self-care that I do are my diet. I wouldn’t say that I like to restrict myself, but I like to eat good, quality food.”

The campaign emphasizes on going beyond the ordinary or embracing the extraordinary. How do you interpret this idea in the context of your career and life in general?

“I think that just means soaking in every moment and just seeing the silver lining in everything. Just being able to appreciate the moments for what lessons they give you or what experiences they can eat. Whether good or bad, you always take something.”

What are some tips you can give to young people struggling with self-confidence and appreciating their own beauty?

“I think, well, for me, beauty comes from within. And I think that it’s very important that we really appreciate the aspects of ourselves that we think are the most beautiful. And we shouldn’t have listened to what society kind of dictates as beautiful. Because (again) beauty is subjective.

“And I believe that everybody, especially if you are going through struggles or insecurities right now, you should find time to really focus on yourself, dedicate time to taking care of yourself, loving yourself some more, and talk to yourself positively.

“I think words really have power and so I try not to talk negatively to myself. It’s important like you see this on TikTok and YouTube all the time. People like saying words of affirmation to themselves in the mirror. People think it’s funny, but it actually has so much power and it really changes the way you see things.

“And so I hope that everybody can be a little kinder to themselves and show some more love to themselves.”
