Vikings about 50/50 to trade up for quarterback 2 weeks from NFL Draft
The NFL Draft is filled with potential when it comes to what the Minnesota Vikings can do. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah spoke on Thursday about not being afraid of risks and it being okay to love more than one player during his press conference. That sent some mixed signals about what their plans are but that is how he operates.
Looking at the Vikings from a big picture perspective gives you an opportunity to look at all the options, including one that doesn’t include a trade down. It’s not something that Vikings fans want to hear, but it is a realistic possibility with the franchise owning picks 11 and 23 overall.
Will the Vikings trade up for a quarterback in the NFL Draft?
That’s the million dollar question right now. It certainly seems like they want to do it and the reports are that they are serious but will they actually pull the trigger? Kevin Seifert of ESPN doesn’t think it’s the most likely proposition, saying its about a 50/50 proposition
Fifty percent. The Vikings’ preference is to trade up. But to use two words that general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and coach Kevin O’Connell have both repeated, Minnesota needs a “complicit” team to make that trade, and they’ll need the “flexibility” to pivot if none of their offers are accepted. There is a 100% chance the Vikings will draft a quarterback at some point in the draft, but the question is how highly regarded that player will be as a future pro. Adofo-Mensah and O’Connell know they can’t simply will a trade into existence.
The way Seifert lays out his reasoning is fascinating. The Vikings do blatantly want to trade up for a quarterback, but the Adofo-Mensah philosophy is playing into things here. They are prepared for whatever comes up in the draft, as it’s just as important to need a trade partner as it is to want to move up.
