Michael Beale issues message to Aston Villa players after 'fantastic' Crystal Palace victory

Asia's Tech News Daily

Aston Villa assistant head coach Michael Beale has hailed the ‘fantastic effort’ of his players to win 2-1 at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Beale and Villa head coach Steven Gerrard have made the perfect start at Villa Park after winning both of their opening games.

Under Gerrard and his backroom staff, Villa have taken maximum points from the last two league games against Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Last week, Gerrard’s side scored two late goals through Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings to beat Brighton 2-0 and end a five-match losing run which had ended in the sacking of Dean Smith at the start of the international break.

Gerrard demanded of his players that they back up the victory with a positive result against Patrick Vieira’s high-flying Palace, and they didn’t let him down.

Matt Targett’s opener handed Villa an early first-half advantage, before John McGinn scored on the 86th minute to double the lead. A late consolation goal scored by Palace defender Marc Guehi was too little, too late for the hosts as Villa won their second game under the new management team.

And assistant coach Beale was delighted with his players’ attitude and application to grind out another important three points.

Beale said on Twitter: “Fantastic effort from the players today”

Villa face a tough task to retain their 100% record when they host Manchester City on Wednesday night (20:15), before then entreating Leicester City at Villa Park next Sunday (16:30).
