Third Covid Death In Bengal This Year As 24-Year-Old Dies Day After Testing Positive

A 24-year-old man from Kolkata died on Tuesday after testing positive for Covid-19. The deceased, Ashish Hazra was first admitted to the National Medical College and Hospital after he faced trouble breathing, a senior official of the health department told news agency PTI. Ashish’s death is the third virus-related death in West Bengal this year, the official stated.

The official said that he was diagnosed with meningitis and then tested positive for Covid-19. Subsequently, he was shifted to Beliaghata ID Hospital. There his condition started to deteriorate following which he passed away on Sunday night, PTI reported.

Ashish’s body was handed over to Kolkata Municipal Corporation officials on Monday after which his last rights were performed as per COVID-19 protocols.

In January, the West Bengal government registered two deaths due to Covid-19. A 90-year-old man from North Headua was one of the two deaths. He was admitted to the hospital with a fever and cold on January 9 and later tested positive for Covid-19 infection.

The death certificate of the deceased mentioned septic shock as the immediate cause of death and cited Covid pneumonia as the antecedent cause. The certificate also stated an acute chronic kidney disease as a significant co-morbidity, TOI reported.

The current active cases across India have reached a total of 934. The total Covid-19 cases in India stand at around 4.5 crore with a death toll of 5,33,484.
