Meta India’s legal director, marketing director and other top executives asked to leave
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has recently carried out its third round of layoffs, which impacted close to 6,000 employees worldwide. The recent layoffs also impacted employees in India. Some of the top executives in India including Avinash Pant, the director of marketing for India, Saket Jha Saurabh, the director of media partnerships, and Amrita Mukherjee, the director of legal at Meta India were reportedly asked to step down.
As per Moneycontrol, Amrita Mukherjee, who headed the legal team at Hotstar before joining Meta, was laid off. Mukherjee’s Linkedin account states that she has been a part of the company for ten months.
Additionally, sources revealed that the layoffs extended to various departments in India, including marketing, administration, human resources, and others. At the time, Meta had not provided an immediate comment on the recent job cuts in India.
One employee, Surabhi Prakash, a Business Engineer at Meta, took to LinkedIn to express her sentiments after being asked to leave. She wrote, “Sad it ended but glad it happened, The anxiousness is over finally.” These layoffs affected employees across different levels within the company.
This latest round of job cuts is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations and reduce costs, a plan referred to as the “Year of Efficiency.” The layoffs primarily impacted Meta’s business divisions globally. Meta’s Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg had previously announced in March that the company would cut 10,000 jobs through two rounds of layoffs, scheduled for late April and late May.
Since November of 2022, Meta has eliminated a total of 21,000 positions across various departments. Last month, around 4,000 of the planned 10,000 job cuts were implemented, leaving approximately 6,000 positions potentially at risk of being eliminated.
These job cuts reflect Meta’s strategic restructuring as the company adapts to changing market dynamics and aims to enhance efficiency. However, they also represent a challenging time for the affected employees, including senior executives in India, as they face the consequences of the company’s cost-cutting measures.
