Ghana boss Chris Hughton.
Chris Hughton was confronted by journalists after Ghana’s 2-2 draw with Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations last night.
Leading 2-0 heading into injury time courtesy of two Jordan Ayew goals, Ghana capitulated and conceded in the 91st and 94th minute to leave them on the brink of exiting the tournament.
In the aftermath of the game, video footage posted by well-known Ghanaian football reporter Saddick Adams appears to show members of the press pack shouting at Hughton and calling him “stupid” and “foolish” as he walks by.
Captioning the post, Adams wrote: “The Ghana Media here have taken it upon ourselves to sack whoever deserves a sack. Hughton is the first. The rest should come The CAF Security should be calm, we will be under control.”
Since becoming manager in 2023, Hughton has seen his side struggle and is under severe pressure after overseeing a wretched group stage that could see The Black Stars dumped out of the competition.
The former Brighton manager is expected to leave the role at the end of the tournament and has been mentioned as a contender for the vacant Republic of Ireland job.
With friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland fast approaching, the FAI are understood to be keen to finalize a deal for their new manager and are hoping to make an announcement in the next couple of weeks.
