Jadon Sancho proves his point as Dortmund manager contradicts Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag

Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic has praised Jadon Sancho’s training performances following his return to the club earlier this month.

Sancho, 23, endured a torrid stint at Manchester United after leaving Germany in a £73million deal back in the summer of 2021 but is now back at Dortmund on loan until the end of the season.

The England winger was frozen out at Old Trafford by Erik ten Hag after the player took to social media to undermine the Dutchman after he claimed Sancho had been dropped from the matchday squad against Arsenal due to poor training performances back in September.

Sancho’s future beyond the end of the current campaign is unclear with Dortmund unlikely to be able to facilitate a permanent deal, but for now, Terzic is more than happy with how Sancho is doing.

He told German outlet Sport: “It’s true that Jadon arrived with good stats. Nevertheless, we know how the last few weeks and months have gone for him. If you see that with him, then we’re happy about every training session. He’s doing well this week. We also tested Ian Maatsen [another new signing] again on Tuesday. Both are outstandingly good. Nevertheless, we will handle it with caution.”

Terzic’s comments on Sancho are all the more intriguing given Ten Hag’s claims about Sancho’s training performances. He went on to stress that Dortmund would be patient with Sancho given his lack of football in recent months.

Sancho made an instant impact in his first match back in black and yellow by bagging an assist in the 3-0 win over Darmstadt, but it remains to be seen if he will get more minutes against Cologne in Dortmund’s next Bundesliga outing.

Speaking after the Darmstadt match, Sancho admitted his goal during his second stint at Dortmund is simply to be “happy again”. He said: “Ever since I’ve come back I have felt at home and I’m just happy to be back on the pitch again.

“It was meant to be, coming back and seeing Marco [Reus] again. He’s a great friend of mine and I’m happy to set up his goal. [My goal is] to be happy again, to be back on the pitch and to help the team, get them back in the top three and qualify for the Champions League.

“I’ve got personal goals which I’m not going to say for now. I just want to help the team and I’m very positive about the second half of the season. We kept a clean sheet which was really important and we just take it game by game. The team have objectives and I’m sure we’ll do well if we fight every game.”
