How the cast of The Office had Hollywood glow ups since the hit show ended - as Martin Freeman shows off his chiselled physique in controversial film Miller's Girl

The stars of The Office now look a world away from their much loved characters READ MORE: Viewers are left horrified by 'gross' sex scene featuring Jenna Ortega, 21, and Martin Freeman, 52, in Miller's Girl

When The Office premiered on BBC2 in 2001, its setting in a run-down, grey office in Slough didn’t scream Hollywood glamour.

But after the show became an enormous hit, bringing in huge audiences as well as a slew of BAFTAs, the cast of the sitcom were destined for stardom and the bright lights of Tinseltown.

Martin Freeman has recently turned heads with his Hollywood glow-up in newly-released Miller’s Girl, where he stars in steamy scenes with Jenna Ortega.

And he’s not the only cast member to have undergone a transformation, with many other stars of The Office exuding style and glamour on red carpets as they mix in A-list circles.

For his latest role, Martin, 52, (who played Tim Canterbury in The Office) showcased his new chiselled look, complete with noticeably bigger biceps.

Meanwhile the show’s creator Ricky Gervais, now a multi-millionaire, has made several dapper red carpet appearances as his career has seen him host the Golden Globes and sell-out multiple world tours.

Here, FEMAIL explores The Office cast’s looks now and then…

Martin, 52, played the role of lovable office worker Tim who eventually found love with co-worker Dawn (Lucy Davis) in the finale.

Since then he has become a true A-list actor and has starred in some of the biggest movies of recent times.

Following his appearance as Dr John Watson alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock, he was cast as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit movies, which gross a whopping £1billion at the box office.

Martin then went on to play Everett K. Ross in Marvel movies Black Panther and it’s sequel Wakanda Forever which themselves raked in an incredible £200million.

He’s bulked out for his recent role, displaying noticeably bigger biceps in X-rated scenes with co-star Jenna Ortega, 21, that have been branded ‘gross’ by viewers who were left horrified by their 31-year age gap.

Wednesday star Jenna plays 18-year-old student Cairo Sweet in the black comedy drama, while Martin takes on the role of her teacher Jonathan Miller.

The film sees the two getting tangled in a very complex and inappropriate relationship, with Cairo choosing to pen a sex story after being given a creative writing assignment by Jonathan.

Raunchy scenes from this story are then played out on screen by Jenna and Martin – leaving viewers in uproar over the ‘uncomfortable’ age gap.

Ricky Gervais, 62, who played David Brent in the series, often now looks smart and charming when stepping out at award ceremonies.

For instance, the British comedian appeared sharp in a tuxedo as he hosted the Golden Globes in 2020.

He created The Office alongside Stephen Merchant and the pair also co-directed the series.

He played the role of David Brent who is best known for his bizarre motivational speeches and awful dancing – a character he revived for a 2016 film.

After ending the series on a high the pals went on to create and star in series Extra, where Ricky played a supporting artist and Stephen his hapless agent. And despite it’s huge success they again only decided to make two series.

They then joined forced to create a vehicle for Warwick Davis with Life’s Too Short which lasted for one season.

Since then Ricky has branched out by himself and has become one of the world’s most famous and successful comedians.

After a stint in films including The Invention of Lying and Night At The Museum franchise, he created Netflix sitcom After Life, winning numerous awards for his acting and writing.

The comedian has hosted the Golden Globes five times and numerous comedy specials.

Ralph Ineson, 54, who portrayed Chris Finch, has upped his style game in recent years – opting for trendy accessories and fashionable suits when out and about at star-studded occasions.

He starred as the show’s main baddie, slimy travelling businessman Chris Finch who was also known as Finchy.

The actor was later cast as an equally horrible character as one of Lord Voldemort’s Death Eaters, Amycus Carrow, in the final three Harry Potter movies.

Despite appearances in Game Of Thrones, critically acclaimed horror The Witch and Corrie, Ralph revealed he was fed up of being type cast after making a name for himself in the BBC sitcom.

Telling The Daily Mail in 2021: ‘To say I’m tired of every part I’ve played for the last 20 years being cross-referenced with Finchy would be an understatement’.

LUCY DAVIS (Dawn Tinsley)

Lucy Davis, meanwhile, has showed off her weight lifting skills in recent years on her Instagram account – and always dresses to impress at red carpet events.

In April 2022, the actress, who made a name for herself as Dawn Tinsley, shared a photo of herself as she got stuck into a home workout.

‘5lb single arm deadlifts. I can’t get up from my chair. Send help #weightlifting #strengthtraining #womenlifting @jakebodyupgrade,’ the star wrote, tagging her younger brother Jake, who has been working as her personal trainer.

But it hasn’t always been easy for Lucy to accept her body the way it is and she previously opened up about her experience with bulimia, which was at its worst when she was going through a divorce in 2011.

She said during a 2017 interview with The Telegraph that after years of living with an eating disorder she’s realised that ‘whatever your body’s meant to be, it will figure itself out… it’s been a journey’.

‘In my 30s, I would have hated to look like this,’ she added. ”I probably wouldn’t have gone out much. I’d diet for a week and then eat all the food I hadn’t consumed in the previous seven days in a single day.’

The actress, who even enrolled in Overeaters Anonymous, went on: ‘Now, I think I’m just normal. But my head didn’t think that then. This period of binge and purge was at its worst when my marriage came to an end.’

MACKENZIE CROOK (Gareth Keenan)

Mackenzie Crook played the role of jobsworth and boss’ pet Gareth Keenan in the popular series – and his character was hardly the epitome of cool style.

Bumbling around the Wernham-Hogg office in oversized suits as he sucked up to Gervais’s David Brent, Gareth Keenan was the butt of most jokes in the workplace – notably being pranked in the pilot episode when co-worker and arch-rival Tim put his stapler into a plate of jelly.

Yet the actor often seems a world away from the boring suits Gareth would wear – instead showcasing fashionable shirts and jackets when attending events.

Following The Office, he has since showcased his talent behind the scenes and secured a BAFTA nod for his own BBC comedy The Detectorist which ran from 2014 to 2022.

The actor also appeared in the Pirates of The Caribbean franchise as no-good seaman Ragetti – and carved out a new image as a rugged wayfairer.

Elsewhere, he popped up in Game Of Thrones’ third season as a Warg (a character with the ability to enter the minds of animals) before taking on the iconic tole of Worzel Gummidge in the 2019 remake.

Stirling Gallacher played general manager Jennifer Taylor-Clarke in The Office before spending six years in Doctors.

A stern character in Ricky Gervais’s sitcom, she often catches out the workshy David Brent for not reading important emails and mismanagement of his team.

She went on to act in Coronation Street where she played lawyer Paula Martin from 2018-2020 and also has starred in Casualty – but her fashion style is clearly quite different to the character she played in Ricky Gervais’ sitcom.

The actress proved to be effortlessly glamorous when at The British Soap Awards in Manchester in 2019.

She opted for a stylish blazer with a pink skirt and matching shoes, while adding a touch of glitz to her ensemble with a pair of hooped earrings.
