Clinton Morrison disagrees with David Moyes over Nottingham Forest win

clinton morrison disagrees with david moyes over nottingham forest win

Clinton Morrison hailed Forest’s victory

Clinton Morrison says David Moyes cannot hide behind the fact West Ham had Kalvin Phillips sent off because Nottingham Forest were the better team throughout their Premier League clash at the City Ground.

A goal in each half from Taiwo Awoniyi and Callum Hudson-Odoi gave Nuno Espirito Santo’s men a much-needed win, a first in the Premier League this year and improved their situation at the wrong end of the table.

However, Morrison believes Forest – even though they are eight points behind West Ham – merited their victory against a side that was hammered 6-0 by Arsenal last time out. Moyes felt Phillips’ second yellow card in the 70th minute was a pivotal point – Morrison doesn’t.

“It was a big win for them,” the former striker told Sky Sports. “They thoroughly deserved it as well, regardless of whether West Ham went down to ten men, they were the better team, Forest looked the most likely, they had a cutting edge.

“[Morgan] Gibbs-White was very good in the ten, [Taiwo] Awoniyi was causing [Kurt] Zouma and [Nayef] Aguerd loads of problems and [Callum] Hudson-Odoi and [Anthony] Elanga have got the pace and eventually Hudson-Odoi gets a second goal.

“But no, they deserved it and it was a great atmosphere and I said if Forest are going to survive in the Premier League, their home form is crucial and the fans played a big part so they thoroughly deserved the three points.”

Asked if he saw a response from the West Ham players after the ignominy against Arsenal he was unequivocal in his criticism. “I didn’t see a reaction and I know he said the build up from the back was good, but it was slow and all the three midfielders are very similar.

“They are talented footballers but very similar, not one is running beyond [Michail] Antonio into that final third and they’re too reliant on Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus. They miss [Lucas] Paqueta, they missed that creative spark and that’s the way they struggled and they didn’t deserve anything.”
