Melissa Gilbert, 58, Shares The Drugstore Moisturizer She’s ‘Obsessed’ With

  • “We’re obsessed…this stuff is the bomb,” she says.

Melissa Gilbert always keeps it real. Whether she’s reflecting on aging or detailing IBS distress and colonoscopy prep, The Little House on the Prairie star speaks her truth. So when the 58 year old offers up a product recommendation, I know it’s something she’ll stand by. That’s why I was so excited when she shared her favorite moisturizer with me: La Roche Posay Lipikar Triple Repair Moisturizing Body Cream.

amazon, melissa gilbert, 58, shares the drugstore moisturizer she’s ‘obsessed’ with

Lipikar Triple Repair Moisturizing Body Cream

“We’re obsessed with La Roche Posay Lipikar Triple Repair Moisturizing Body Cream…this stuff is the bomb,” Gilbert tells me.“[My husband] Tim and I both have really dry skin—we have skin issues [and the] derm has us using [this] after we shower and put it on.

The moisturizer is chock full of powerful ingredients like niacinamide (a form of vitamin B3), which is an essential nutrient for the development and function of the cells in your body, thermal spring water, and nourishing shea butter. And the unscented formula makes it great for sensitive skin.

The product rec definitely lives up to Gilbert’s hype, too. It comes highly recommended by dermatologists and testers alike, with over 17,000 ratings and nearly five stars on Amazon.

Users sing the cream’s praises: “Growing up with problematic, sensitive, dry skin with a side of eczema has sent me on a lifelong journey of which moisturizer works best for me. This lotion is very thick and heavy, kind of greasy, with no added fragrance, and has the National Eczema Association approval. It’s perfect for my skin! Especially during the colder months, this helps a lot! I would recommend this for colder months but it can be used year-round obviously,” writes one satisfied customer.

“If you’re someone who has eczema and is tired of using steroid creams that the dermatologists give you then I recommend this! It worked during a flare-up and completely cleared it up, I haven’t had a flare-up ever since and I’ve had fewer dermatologist visits. It leaves my skin feeling nice and smooth and isn’t greasy. The moisture this provides is a 10/10,” writes another.

But the product is just one aspect of Gilbert’s routine. The star says she’s been “embracing those things that keep me healthy—not young, but healthy. Drinking a lot of water, leaning into veggies and fruits, and backing away from processed foods and meats,” she tells me. “I’ve learned to accept what my body is going through.”

This acceptance, for Gilbert, means foregoing cosmetic procedures like Botox and fillers. “I have chosen not to do anymore. For a myriad of reasons but mainly because it just takes me out of my peaceful place and I’m happy in my own skin.”

But, she says, she does still do Botox—just not to turn back the clock. “In all fairness, I do get Botox injections for migraines but they know not to do my forehead. I saw a picture of myself and I thought ‘that is too far.’ I stopped doing all of that stuff because of the maintenance and time it takes. Also, it makes me feel unsettled—like I was fighting something beautiful and wonderful that I should be still.”

Gilbert’s take on aging and beauty is truly refreshing—we can’t wait to see what amazing things the star will do next. In the meantime, check out her latest venture that works to elevate the voices of women redefining aging: Modern Prairie and some more of her past beauty favorites below.
