Collin Morikawa posts 2 hilarious lessons from his Masters meltdown

Collin Morikawa entered Sunday’s final round of the 88th Masters Tournament in the final pairing. He was one shot back of World No. 1, Scottie Scheffler.

Early on in his round, it appeared as though fireworks were in store for the back nine. But a couple untimely double bogeys loomed, all but ending Morikawa’s chances at his first Green Jacket.

Following his round, Morikawa was quite candid saying “greed” is what cost him Sunday.

After a few hours of reflection though, the two-time major champion took a lighter approach, utilizing social media in the process.

“A few things I’ve learned from this week.

1. Don’t hit it in the water on 11, duh

2. Get better at tee flips so I’m always going second,” Morikawa wrote on X.

He referenced one of the aforementioned double bogeys. Morikawa got uber aggressive trying to the pin on the difficult par-4 11th. With the pin sitting on the left edge of the covered covered up by a bunker and the lake next to it, the obvious play was safely to the right side of the green and likely two-putt for par.

However, a double bogey two holes earlier had dropped him three shots off the lead. Morikawa was likely feeling the pressure and decided to go for it.

His other less was very lighthearted.

On the 13th hole, it was unclear who was farthest from the hole. So Morikawa flipped a tee into the air to see which direction it landed. It pointed at him, and he was then forced to play first.

Both players however would go on to birdie the hole.

It is nice to see the lighter side of the usually serious Morikawa. He clearly has the game to contend for any major championship. He also has the confidence, as seen by his “not scared” comments heading into Sunday’s final round.

Now he just needs to close the deal.
