The offseason is virtually behind us, with just a few more coaching changes, Notre Dame having to fill Chris O’Leary’s spot, and the majority of player movement has been done, it’s a bit easier to guess which teams will be among the best.
While there will undoubtably be more player movement in the spring transfer period, 247Sports Chris Hummer and a few of his associates, collaborated on another version of their way-too-early top 25.
The Irish stayed put, holding onto the No. 9 spot of their rankings. Hummers justification was that Notre Dame did well to find replacements for its departing stars, while addressing the offense with the addition of offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock.

Obviously the preseason rankings don’t matter much in the long run, but it definitely helps with perception as the season gets going. With the College Football Playoff expanding this season, being ranked No. 9 would get the Irish into the dance.
