Meghan Markle slammed for her 'sad' decision ahead of sombre occasion for Prince Harry
Meghan Markle will not be joining Prince Harry when he returns to the UK next week and one royal expert has slammed her “sad” decision.
The Duke of Sussex will visit London on May 8 for a special service to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. He will give a reading during the event which will take place at St Paul’s Cathedral, the same place his parents got married.
Royal commentator Charlotte Griffiths believes Harry will be “so lonely” without his wife and said the decision is “so sad”. She also suggested no senior members of the Royal Family will be by Harry’s side.

Offices for the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace have not yet confirmed plans for Harry to meet with his family when he returns to the UK. Charlotte said the Invictus Games service will be “very stark” if Harry goes without his family.
Speaking to GB News, she added: “That’s where his parents got married. It’s going to be a very sombre and senior event.” Princess Diana and the then-Prince Charles married in 1981, but later split in 1992 and finalised their divorce in 1996.
Charlotte said Harry would likely want his wife by his side while he’s at St Paul’s Cathedral. “It’s a really important part of Harry’s soul, and the kind of thing he’d want his wife, maybe even his kids by his side for,” she explained.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed Meghan will not be joining Harry in the UK after months of speculation. Royal correspondent Chris Ship confirmed the news on X, formerly known as Twitter. He said: “Additional confirmation this morning that Meghan will not be joining Harry for the Invictus Anniversary service at @StPaulsLondon in London. But the Duchess of Sussex will join the Duke for an Invictus-inspired visit to Nigeria immediately after Harry leaves the UK.”
While Meghan will be skipping the UK trip, she will join her husband on a visit to Nigeria shortly after his London trip. During their stay, Harry and Meghan are expected to take part in cultural activities and meet with service members and their families.
Meghan has made very few return trips to the UK since stepping down from the Royal Family in 2020. She joined the royals to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, but hasn’t returned since the Queen’s funeral in September 2022.
