Meghan Markle latest news – Prince Harry & Meg given ‘gentle nudge’ by Spotify to FINISH content after £18m deal

HARRY and Meghan are working to protect their £18million podcast deal after failing to produce any content this year leaving Spotify chiefs mystified.

Pressure has been mounting on the pair to follow up the only episode of their multi-year contract – a solitary 35-minute holiday special last December.

Spotify last year excitedly announced it was expecting a fullscale launch of content from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex throughout 2021.

But with only one show under their belts, the streaming platform has so far paid the couple £500,000 for each minute.

One source said: “Spotify were delighted when they signed the couple, but the lack of content has mystified them. Particularly as they seem to have no problem producing content for other platforms.”

Another source said: “When Harry and Meghan signed the Spotify deal in December, they didn't really have a full audio team behind them, there were no scripts ready and they hadn't made podcasts before. The holiday special episode was whacked together but, even though it was well received by fans, it was hard for them to pull off.”

    Royal dress code

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge must adhere to a dress code when they’re out and about at informal events, too.

For women, a smart day dress or trousers teamed with a blazer is deemed acceptable, while men opt for a collared shirt with chinos.

Wills is often seen in the smart day trousers, but has on occasion broken the rules and worn jeans.

Etiquette expert Grant Harrold, known as The Royal Butler, told the BBC: “”Many places will not allow jeans as they are still seen as very casual wear, so it is better to play safe for both sexes.

“But if the duchess is outside walking the dogs for example, then jeans are fine.”

    Kate glamorous headpieces

Prior to her wedding, the Duchess of Cambridge wasn’t seen in public wearing a tiara.

This is because glamorous headpieces are typically reserved for married women.

Tiaras are traditionally worn at formal events, and are used as a “sign of status”.

Harrold told the BBC: “The old rule is that hats are never worn indoors after 6pm, because that is when the ladies changed into evening dress, and tiaras and the family jewels would come out.”

He added: “For married ladies, it was a sign of status and would show you were taken and not looking for a husband.

“For the gentleman, it was a clear sign not to make advances toward the lady in question.”

Channel 4 enters race to air Queen's Xmas speech

CHANNEL 4 has entered the race to air the Queen's Christmas Day speech.

The broadcaster's application comes in the wake of the Royal Family falling out with the BBC.

An insider said: “This is a bold and unprecedented move from Channel 4.

“But they are a public broadcaster, too, and don't have any axes to grind.

“Bosses are continually looking to expand the broadcaster's remit and give viewers fresh and unexpected programming.

“They've made it clear they would like to film the speech this year — especially if the Royals punish the Beeb and withdraw their rights, although that does seem unlikely. But the Royal family have shown they have backbone and won't stand for much more nonsense.

“Channel 4 would definitely love to show the Queen's speech this year should the BBC be punished again.”

To turn her romantic life around, Cass reads The Daters Handbook self-help book and subsequently ends up dating several men at once.

Royals to attend Beijing Winter Olympics?

Labour has pressed the Government to answer whether royal and Government figures will attend the Beijing Olympics.

Shadow foreign minister Stephen Kinnock that: “documents emerged which clearly demonstrate the orders to commit genocide in Xinjiang are coming from the very top of the Chinese Communist Party”.

He added that the party has been calling for a “full diplomatic and political boycott” the games in response to the allegations.

Mr Kinnock asked: “Does the minister think that it is appropriate to send members of our Royal Family to the Beijing Olympics to rub shoulders with the very people who are orchestrating these horrific crimes against their own people?”

Foreign Office minister Amanda Milling replied, saying: “As I have said in previous answers, we have imposed sanctions but in terms of attendance at the Winter Olympics, no decisions have been made.”

What is Piers Morgan feud with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry?

Over the years, Piers has criticised Meghan, repeatedly calling her “fake”, a “ruthless social climber” and accused her of using her marriage to “get to the top”.

The media broadcaster has also described Prince Harry as hypocritical, accusing the Duke of “playing the victim”.

It is long-running commentary that has seen Morgan accused of bullying, sexism, and racism.

While the feud has remained one sided with the Duke and Duchess staying tight-lipped on Morgan’s take-downs, the pair have been vocal in their criticism of the media.

What has Piers Morgan said about Megxit?

Piers tweeted Harry and Meghan “bullied” the Queen into allowing them to leave the Royal Family.

He wrote on social media: “BREAKING: Harry/Meghan have successfully bullied the Queen into letting them have their cake & eat it.”

Before the talks he branded Prince Harry a “whiny, entitled parody of himself… bullying Queen into a woke monarchy.”

He went on to call the couple “two spoiled brats” whose behaviour towards the Queen is “utterly outrageous”, again attacking the 10-year veteran army captain Harry, calling him “weak, whiny and miserable”.

When the pair announced their interview with Oprah, Piers' outrage only increased.

How do Piers Morgan and Meghan Markle know each other?

Piers revealed: “We had two hours in the pub, she had a couple of dirty martinis and pints – we got on brilliantly.

“Then I put her in a cab, and it turns out it was the cab that took her to a party where she met Prince Harry.

“The next night they had a solo dinner and that was the last I ever heard from Meghan Markle. I never heard from her again – Meghan Markle ghosted me.”

Piers said he was “ditched like a sack of spuds!”

Royal Scottish bed curtain going on sale

A 16th century bed curtain embroidered by Mary, Queen of Scots in prison is expected to fetch thousands at auction after it survived being damage during Storm George.

The fragment of material narrowly avoided being ruined when rain water poured into a property in the Scottish Highlands where it was being stored last year.

The colourful curtain is believed to have been stitched by the tragic monarch while she was imprisoned in England during the 16th Century.

It is now expected to fetch more than £1,000 when it goes under the hammer at Hansons Auctioneers, in Etwall, Derbys., next Tuesday.

The owner, an antiques fan from Northamptonshire, said she bought the item after it caught her eye at an auction house around five years ago.

She said: “I've always been fascinated by antiques. I was looking round a Scottish auction saleroom one day and found the framed piece of embroidery lying upside down on the floor. lifted it up and couldn't believe it when I read the inscription.”

Trump not a fan of Meghan but was happy to have an American princess

Trump said of Meghan to The Sun in 2019: “I didn't know that she was nasty.”

And over their departure from the Royal Family, in 2020, he tweeted: “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom.

“It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada.

“Now they have left Canada for the US however, the US will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”

When the couple urged people to vote in the 2020 election, Mr Trump told reporters: “I'm not a fan of hers and I would say this, and she probably has heard that.

“But I wish a lot of luck to Harry, cause he's going to need it.”

Was it the Queen who tipped Harry and Meghan over the edge?

In Brothers And Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William Kate, Harry and Meghan, a new book about the Royals, the author, Christopher Andersen, claims that it was in fact the Queen’s actions that tipped them over the edge and finalised their decision to move to California.

Apparently in 2019, prior to recording her annual festive broadcast, which airs every year on Christmas day, she instructed an assistant to move a photo of Harry and Meghan out of shot.

Which exact photo it was is unknown, but it is claimed that only Meghan and Harry were in the image.

It is believed the photo was on a desk alongside other framed photos of Royals including William and Kate, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Queen’s father George VI, and the Duke of Edinburgh, too.

Healing power of music needed now more than ever, says MBE violinist

The “healing power of music is needed now more than ever”, violinist Jennifer Pike has said.

She won the BBC Young Musician of the Year Award at the age of 12 and has since built a successful career including playing at the BBC Proms, regular appearance at Wigmore Hall, working with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and also as a soloist.

She collected an MBE on Wednesday for her services to classical music from the Princess Royal in a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Pike, 32, said: “I feel that in the dark times you need something to hold on to. I feel that music gives meaning to life. I cannot imagine there would be a single person in this pandemic who hasn't experienced in some form an uplifting experience through music.”

She said “it might not be in the way that you expect” and could range from a jingle to introduce the news or something you might hear while you are out and about. “We have needed that, especially in these times. We have needed it to give joy and hope.

“I feel that there are many who can't go out, who are suffering and can't do their normal things, but somehow connect to music and art.”

Duke of York dragged into Ghislaine Maxwell sex trafficking trial

The Duke of York has been dragged into the sex-trafficking trial of Ghislaine Maxwell after being listed as a passenger on disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein's private planes.

Jurors trying the case at the court in the Southern District of New York were told Andrew was one of a number of high-profile figures to fly on the aircraft, including former US presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, and actor Kevin Spacey.

British socialite Maxwell, who was described as “dangerous” during Monday's proceedings, is accused of preying on vulnerable young girls and luring them to massage rooms to be molested by Epstein between 1994 and 2004.

On Tuesday, Epstein's former pilot Larry Visoski told the court Maxwell was “number two” to her ex-partner, with the convicted sex offender “definitely the big number one”.

The witness also recalled meeting one of Epstein's alleged victims, given the pseudonym “Jane”.

“Did anyone tell you how old Jane was when you met her?” assistant United States attorney Maurene Comey asked.

“No they didn't no,” Mr Visoski responded. “Mr Epstein brought her to the cockpit and introduced her to me.

“She was a mature woman with striking blue eyes.”
