Megalopolis: Francis Ford Coppola Unveils First Look at Long-Gestating Star-Studded Film
As Francis Ford Coppola’s next big film inches closer to a release, the first official look has been revealed. A first look photo has just been released, though it remains unknown when the film itself could be hitting theaters.
The first look photo showcases two members of the movie’s star-studded cast. It shows Adam Driver (Ferrari) and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) with the sights of a large city seen behind them. Driver is playing an architect plotting to rebuild a city from ruins, while Emmanuel plays the daughter of a corrupt mayor (Giancarlo Esposito, Better Call Saul), a foe to Driver’s character. Per Vanity Fair, Coppola describes Driver’s character as having the “power to stop time,” and Emmanuel’s character is torn between her love for the architect and her loyalty to her father, “forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.”

Francis Ford Coppola shares some high praise for his nephew Nicolas Cage in the new film Dream Scenario.
The official synopsis for the film reads, “Megalopolis is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.”

Jon Hamm Thought Francis Ford Coppolas Megalopolis Would Never Happen
Jon Hamm says he doubted the realization of Francis Ford Coppola’s ambitious movie Megalopolis would ever come to fruition.
The movie is written, directed, and produced by Francis Ford Coppola. Producers include Fred Roos, Barry Hirsch, and Micael Bederman, while the executive producers are Anahid Nazarian, Barrie Osborne, and Darren Demetre.
It’s Taken a Long Time to Put Megalopolis Together
“I wasn’t really working on this screenplay for 40 years as I often see written, but rather I was collecting notes and clippings for a scrapbook of things I found interesting for some future screenplay, or examples of political cartoons or different historical subjects,” Coppola said about the lengthy development time for the passion project. “Ultimately, after a lot of time, I settled on the idea of a Roman epic. And then later, a Roman epic set in modern America, so I really only began writing this script, on and off, in the last dozen years or so. Also, as I have made many films of many different subjects and in many different styles, I hoped for a project later in life when I might better understand what my personal style was.”
Megalopolis doesn’t yet have a premiere date set.
