Meet Silver Charm, the oldest Kentucky Derby-winning horse
I will tell you that when you speak of Silver Charm, you’re speaking about a very special horse in the history of thoroughbred racing, 30 years old in the horse world, the good mathematical formula to use, You multiply a horse’s age times 3 and add 7. So it would be as if Silver Charm is 97 years old now. He won the 1997 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, the 1998 Dubai World Cup, and many other races. Among his 24 starts, he won 12 times, took second place seven times and 3rd twice. Today, Silver Charm lives at the old friend’s thoroughbred retirement farms in Georgetown, KY. And he’s been kind of our ambassador. He is, I think, the leading symbol of the pillar that thoroughbred aftercare has become within our industry. When you are racing horses and breeding them, that you have a responsibility for them. Throughout their life, as a result of his tremendous athletic career, he has used that as a platform to help countless other fellow thoroughbred athletes, including the 250 or so that live that live with us.
