- Erik ten Hag fired back at a reporter when asked about Man United’s big week
- Fans were quick to back the Dutchman as they were unimpressed by question
- Pressure is easing on Man United boss Erik ten Hag: Listen to It’s All Kicking Off
Manchester United fans have been left furious at a question asked to Erik ten Hag ahead of Wednesday night’s must-win Champions League match against Galatasaray.
United are the most in-form team in the Premier League right now but head to Istanbul bottom of their Champions League group and staring elimination in the face.
Ten Hag completed his media duties as he usually does ahead of a European game and one interview with TNT Sports soon earned the ire of Man United fans.
The clip, which surfaced on social media, saw the interviewer suggest to Ten Hag that if United lose they are in ‘crisis’ again, which is something ‘we like to see from the outside.’
‘A big week – because it’s Newcastle after – I know every week, you’ll know by now after 18 months, every week feels like a big week,’ the interviewer began, ‘but this feels an important week for you at a point where the season can really improve or another crisis as we like to see from the outside.’
The Manchester United manager was quick to pull the journalist up on the ‘honest’ remark
The Red Devils have turned their poor season around ahead of their clash against Galatasaray
A somewhat stunned Ten Hag responded: ‘You like it?’
‘Well… I guess, yeah,’ the reporter said in response.
Ten Hag, who took it well, added: ‘That’s quite honest. But we don’t care about that, it’s just about us. We started this week well so now we have to continue.’
But United fans were not so mild-mannered with the remark during the clip and soon denounced it across social media.
One fan wrote: ‘Journalists really thought they could walk all over him from day 1.
Manchester United’s fans were totally unimpressed by the remark made towards Ten Hag
‘You think they’d have learned from him dropping several big players and taking no nonsense from all of his players that he would not be phased by them.’
Another said: ‘Incredible comment that.. Well done to Erik for giving it back.’
A third said: ‘This is a really, REALLY bad bit of unprofessional interviewing & Erik ten Hag absolutely rips it apart.’
Ten Hag is unconcerned by outside noise and is totally focused on rescuing Manchester United’s Champions League campaign before a Saturday night clash away to Newcastle.
His side managed the atmosphere away at Everton to win 3-0 on Sunday but face one of Europe’s most notorious atmospheres in Galatasaray desperately needing a win.
