Measures for swimming education again? NSWZ sounds the alarm

The corona figures are rising and hospitals are approaching 100 admissions a day, which in the corona handbook stands for serious. This is a signal that the government must take measures to counteract the increase. Just like the stock market, these measures are a reflection of peaks and troughs. The NSWZ certainly understands the tightening of measures, since it is important that hospitals maintain their capacity. Nevertheless, the SME side of the Swimming industry is also cause for great concern. Small measures can have major consequences for swimming education and therefore swimming safety.

emergency bell

Over the past three lockdowns, it has clearly emerged that the only interlocutor of VWS was the municipal real estate sector. The Sports and Municipality Association (VSG) conducted the majority of the discussions here and provided feedback to the industry. This only takes into account the municipal baths and possibly their commercial operators. The SME side only had to listen and swallow. This time, the NSWZ sounds the alarm in advance. If measures are proposed with regard to swimming pools, swimming lessons, sports lessons and possibly job swimming, then also submit this to the SME side. The establishment has proven time and again that their interests lie elsewhere and that they are not open to dialogue.

Measures in swimming pool

The chairman of the NSWZ, Shiva de Winter, who owns a commercial swimming pool (Zwembad ‘T Gooische Bad) and a swimming school (Swimming School De Winter Sport) in Hilversum, has already announced measures in his own pool to prevent the spread of corona. . Starting tomorrow, daily testing will be reintroduced for staff by means of rapid tests. Vaccinated or not, the safety of staff, guests and children is paramount. Among other things, at the forefront of national measures, the mask obligation for parents is being reintroduced throughout the building. “These are absolutely not matters that we should be concerned with, but the interests are too great not to take steps. We would rather be there early than have to apply the panic actions later,” says De Winter.

Involving children in advice

The NSWZ is preparing a letter to VWS plus several MPs with the emergency call to involve SMEs with about 150,000 swimming lessons children in advice and to prevent any decisions that could have far-reaching consequences for the industry.
