Mayday! Ireland gears up to be hotter than Barcelona ahead of Bank Holiday Weekend
Spring wardrobes at the ready! Ireland will be as hot as Barcelona this week – if only briefly – with temperatures rising to 18C.
Met Éireann has said the start of May will be warmer from today and through to the weekend. And while there’s still a degree of uncertainty from Thursday, there will likely be lots of dry weather and sunshine.

Met Eireann predicts that it will be ‘much drier’ on Wednesday after thunderstorms over the weekend and on Monday. ‘There’ll be a lot of dry weather overall with spells of sunshine, though there’ll be a scattering of showers, a few possibly heavy,’ the national forecaster said.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain, potentially heavy with spot flooding possible in parts of the midlands, south and east. Current indications suggest that it will become mainly dry in the North with sunny intervals developing in the afternoon.
Top temperatures will range from 11 to 15 degrees where the cloud and rain prevails, and it will be between 16 to 18 degrees where the sun breaks through in the north. There will be light to moderate variable breezes.
Thursday night will see outbreaks of rain and drizzle persisting across a central swathe of the country, with drier and clearer breaks either side, across the southwest and north. Lowest temperatures expected of 4C to 8C in light variable breezes.

On Friday, it will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle across the northern half of the country. Maximum temperatures will range from 12 to 17 degrees in light to moderate westerly or variable breezes. The current indications for Saturday suggest a good deal of cloud overall, with patchy rain and drizzle gradually clearing northwards.
Further rain looks set to move up from the south later in the day, with potentially heavy falls. Highest temperatures will range from 13 to 16 degrees with light to moderate variable winds.
There is more uncertainty than usual for this Bank Holiday weekend, but unsettled conditions seem likely to persist, with rain or showers at times, Met Éireann has said.
