Unsatisfied OnePlus 12R buyers due to storage type controversy can get a full refund

OnePlus 12R buyers can get a full refund if they are not satisfied with the device,” the company stated in a community post after the storage-type fiasco. At launch, the company claimed that the 256 GB variant of the OnePlus 12R comes with UFS 4.0-based storage. However, after many independent reports highlighting otherwise, the company then issued an official statement that the phone uses UFS 3.1 flash storage and not the latest UFS 4.0.

In a second community post, Kinder Liu, the president and COO of OnePlus, stated, “If you’ve received a OnePlus 12R 256GB variant (review) and want to discuss the situation with the file system type on your phone, please contact Customer Service through your usual channel. They will be able to discuss next steps with you, up to and including a refund until 16th March 2024.”

He also stated that “due to an error, the phone storage enhanced by Trinity Engine would be UFS 4.0 in some variants. I can now confirm that the storage in all variants of the OnePlus 12R is still enhanced by Trinity Engine but is actually UFS 3.1.”

OnePlus currently sells the 12R in two storage options, with the base model offering 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, while the high-end variant offers 16 GB RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. Both variants make use of UFS 3.1-type storage and continue to sell at Rs 39,999 and Rs 45,999, respectively.

If you recently bought a OnePlus 12R, thinking it has UFS 4.0 storage, there is a window of around a month to return the device at an official channel and get a full refund of Rs 45,999. However, if you have opted for any additional offer while purchasing, the refund is likely to be adjusted accordingly.
