Met Office speaks out over map showing ‘barrage of snow’ hitting next week

The Met Office has spoken out over weather maps showing a “barrage” of Arctic snow ploughing into the country. WXCharts weather maps and charts show a massive band of wintry weather hitting the country as early as February 6.

The meteorologists and forecasters suspect snow will hit Scotland, northern England and even parts of Yorkshire and the Midlands. It comes after Storm Isha and Storm Jocelyn both caused havoc across the country this week.

Earlier this month, flurries of snowfall fell in the North West of England and North East too. The white stuff also blanketed Scotland, and it is expected by forecasters that north of the border will experience the worst of the snowfall next month too.

Speaking out, Aiden McGivern from the Met Office said in a 10-day weather trend video on YouTube: “The temperature trend looks at the run from the European model – the red line is the average and over the next two weeks or so, as you can see, it’s significantly above average.

“Boxes all above the red line and it’s a little bit of a trend to return to average as we head into February. There’s no real signal for anything particularly cold. In the next 14 days, weather patterns will stay mild with PERHAPS a colder flavour as we head into February.

“But by that time there’s a lot of disagreement in the computer modelling.” Looking from January 30 to February 8, the Met Office say: “Through the remainder of the period, changeable with spells of rain at times, but also some drier, brighter interludes.

“The heaviest and most frequent rain will tend to be across north-western areas and accompanied by periods of strong winds. Further south and east settled periods are likely to be more prevalent, with the best of any sunshine and drier weather here. Temperatures are expected to be milder than average overall.”
