Japeth Aguilar gets Gilas recall as injured Fajardo sits out HK qualifier
JAPETH Aguilar has been called up by Gilas Pilipinas in the first window of the Fiba Asia Cup 2025 qualifiers.
Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone said Aguilar will suit up for the games against Hong Kong on February 22 and Chinese Taipei on February 25 with June Mar Fajardo and AJ Edu out due to injuries.
Fajardo will not play after sustaining a calf injury during the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals, while Edu has been ruled out due to a meniscus tear during his Japan B.League campaign a few months ago.
“Japeth is going to play,” said Cone. “He is really God-sent because we lost a lot of size losing June Mar and AJ.”
Aguilar though will only join the team on the eve of the Hong Kong game after his wife gave birth to a baby daughter on Sunday.
But Aguilar has been participating in Gilas practice during their camp at the Inspire Sports Academy.
Gilas will only be playing with 11 players for the first window.
