Marjorie Taylor Greene Ditched by Florida Venue

An event that would have featured Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has been cancelled after the venue hosting it learned she was to reportedly use the occasion to commemorate the third anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump supporters violently stormed the government building to contest the results of the 2020 presidential election, alleging it was stolen by Joe Biden.
In the three years since, more than 1,200 people have been charged in connection with the attack, including around 440 accused of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees, 120 people charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to an officer, and four who admitted to a charge of seditious conspiracy.
Meanwhile, the event in part led to Trump’s federal indictment, alleging he broke the law attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Trump, who is facing three other criminal indictments, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Despite a lack of supporting evidence, Greene too has denied the legitimacy of the 2020 election and has visited the January 6 defendants in jail. She has asked House Speaker Mike Johnson to create a new select committee to investigate the January 6, 2021 riots at the U.S. Capitol.
Her latest event was pitched as a signing for her new book MTG, costing between $45 to $1,000 for people to meet Greene and receive an autographed copy. The event, which was set to be hosted by the Republican Party of Osceola County at the Westgate Resorts in Kissimmee, Florida, has been scrapped. The cancellation follows an NCB News report which said an event invitation listed the third anniversary of January 6, 2021, as the occasion.
“Please be advised that Westgate was not made aware of the purpose of this event when we were approached to host a book signing,” Westgate Resorts said in a statement to NBC News. “This event has been cancelled and is no longer taking place at our resort.”
Newsweek has not independently verified the invitation and has contacted Westgate Resorts by phone and email, representatives for Taylor Greene by email, and the Republican Party of Osceola County by website form to request comment on this story.
When asked about the cancellation by NBC News in Iowa, Greene reportedly refused to comment.
“I really don’t understand the point of your question. It doesn’t make any sense. Aren’t we talking about President Trump? Aren’t we talking about Iowa?” she said, calling the question “stupid.”
