Mariners 10, Twins 6: Bullpen falters late

Mitch Haniger got the Mariners on the board first tonight on a solo homer 2nd inning off of Bailey Ober. Later in that same inning, Dylan Moore would double off the left-center field wall for an RBI to make it a 2-0 game.

Trevor Larnach would get the Twins their first run in the bottom of the 3rd, with an RBI single. Still in the 3rd, Ryan Jeffers blasted a 3-run homer to left giving us a 4-2 lead.

Bailey Ober exited after 5 innings, he allowed 2 runs and struck out 7. Cole Sands pitched a clean 6th, with Jay Jackson getting the 7th. Things did not go well for Jackson, unforunately, as he loaded the bases with 1-out. Steven Okert was brought in, but he gave up a pinch-hit grand slam to Cal Raleigh, giving the Mariners a 6-4 lead.

Back to back doubles by Jose Miranda and Kyle Farmer got the Twins within 1 run in the bottom of the 7th. Later, Kyle Farmer was thrown out at 3rd for the final out in the inning.

Max Kepler led off the home 8th with a double off of the lefty Tayler Saucedo. One out later, Austin Martin hit a grounder to 1st and beat the pitcher to the bag. Saucedo fell down and was injured on the play, allowing Kepler to score and tie the game at 6 a piece.

Things unraveled for the Twins in the top of the 9th. First, Dylan Moore tripled to left field as Martin misjudged the fly ball and jumped too early. Raleigh walked and then Josh Rojas singled, scoring Moore. Mitch Haniger hit a sac-fly RBI, then Rojas scored on a wild pitch. A walk to Mitch Garver and an RBI single by Ty France gave the Mariners a 10-6 lead. That was also the final score as the Twins couldn’t do anything in the bottom half against Andrés Muñoz.
