Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr have their date for May
Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr reportedly have their date set.
ESPN.com’s Mike Coppinger reports that the fight will take place on May 12 in Australia, with the fight airing live in prime time on May 11 in the United States on ESPN.
Lomachenko and Kambosos will be fighting for the vacant IBF lightweight title.
The fight was first reported just before Christmas. Lomachenko and Kambosos had intended to fight in 2022, when Kambosos still held three lightweight titles, but Lomachenko opted to stay in Ukraine during the early days Russia’s invasion of the country.
Instead, Kambosos fought and lost to Devin Haney two times.
The 35-year-old Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KO) has won world titles in three divisions, including lightweight, and last fought in May 2023, losing a hotly-debated decision to the aforementioned Haney.
The 30-year-old Kambosos (21-2, 10 KO) last fought in July 2023, winning a hotly-debated decision over Maxi Hughes.
Coppinger also reports that both Moloney twins, Jason and Andrew, will fight on the card. Jason just retained his WBO bantamweight title last night in Quebec City, beating Saul Sanchez by decision in a terrific fight.
