prakhar chaturvedi smashes yuvraj singh’s record for highest score in cooch behar trophy final
Karnataka raced to a first-innings win over biggies Mumbai in the finals of the Cooch Behar Trophy, riding on an unbeaten 404 from Prakhar Chaturvedi. He has written his name in the record books by scoring the maiden quadruple hundred in the final of the tournament, India’s elite multi-day cricket tournament for U-19 men.
During his innings, Prakhar broke former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s record for the highest individual score in a Cooch Behar Trophy final and is now second on the list of highest individual scores in the tournament.
Vijay Zol’s 451 not out for Maharashtra against Assam in the 2011-12 season remains the highest individual score in the tournament.

Prakhar’s 404 not out took Karnataka 890 for 8 in response to Mumbai’s 380 in Shivamogga for a victory. He opened the innings for Karnataka and remained unbeaten till they declared as he faced a mammoth 638 balls while hitting 46 fours and three sixes.
The next partnership was even bigger, as Prakhar and Harshil Dharmani added a match-winning 290 for the second wicket, Dharmani scoring 169, which took Karnataka past Mumbai’s total.
There were two other fifties in the innings, from Karthikeya KP and Hardik Raj, with Prakhar standing tall at the other end.

The previous highest score in a Cooch Behar Trophy final match was by Yuvraj, back in December 1999, when he scored 358 in Punjab’s victory over Bihar, with former Indian skipper MS Dhoni a part of the XI.
It marked a spectacular turnaround in fortunes for Prakhar, who wasn’t picked in the Under-19 team for the season to begin with. His innings is bound to attract significant interest from the senior state selectors given Karnataka suffered a crushing six-run defeat to Gujarat on Monday.
“He unfortunately missed the Under-16s, it needed a lot of convincing for the selectors to give him an opportunity there,” K Jeshwant, Prakhar’s coach said.
