Jordan Spieth made a quad bogey early Friday morning (on a par 5!) at 2024 Masters

Jordan Spieth is always a popular pick when it comes to the Masters.

Ten years ago, he made his debut at Augusta National Golf Club and placed T-2. A year later, he became the second-youngest winner in the event’s history.

It’s a course you never know what you’re going to get with Spieth, especially in recent years when he missed the cut for the first time in 2022 to making a Sunday run to finish T-4 last year.

However, making the cut is going to be a tough task after an unfortunate series of mistakes on the par-5 15th on Friday morning.

Spieth was in the penultimate grouping in the first round and finished only 11 holes before play was suspended due to darkness Thursday, sitting at 2 over. He returned Friday and made birdie on the par-5 13th hole to begin his day. He gave the shot back quickly on 14, but 15 is where it all fell apart.

He was 77 yards from the flag for his third shot but went long of the green. His fourth shot didn’t check once it landed on the back-to-front sloped surface and rolled into the water.

Back across the water, his sixth shot again went long. He putted three times from there to card a nine. Spieth was animated walking off the green, looking like he wanted to tomahawk his putter but didn’t.

The unfortunate series of events moved Spieth to 6 over and beat only three golfers in the field.

It’s not the first quad Spieth has made at the 15th. He also made a 9 in the first round of the 2017 Masters. That year, he shot 75 in the first round and finished T-11.

Sergio Garcia has the highest score on the 15th hole, a 13 in 2018.
