MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly lining up a shocking deal for Atletico Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.

The Spanish international spent the last two seasons on loan at Juventus and United see him as an option despite flopping at Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri.

Meanwhile, a move for Adrien Rabiot seems to be edging closer as the Frenchman's mother who is his agent, met with United director John Murtough.

The England star has been out of form of late but Erik Ten Hag has stated that Rashford will STAY at Old Trafford this season.

And Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez has snubbed a potential move seeing Cristiano Ronaldo return to Spain.

But the Portuguese icon could be staying in Manchester having been pictured in United's new third kit unveiling.

    Man Utd in Neves blow

Wolves are working on a megabucks deal to keep Ruben Neves after warding off the big boys, writes TIM NASH.

The Portugal star has two years left on his contract but boss Bruno Lage is eager to keep him and is pushing for the club to offer him £100,000 a week.

The midfielder, 25, currently on around £60,000 a week, was expected to leave this summer but Manchester United and Arsenal were put off by Wolves’ £80million price tag.

Lage said: “We are working on a new deal for Ruben. At the last game, the fans were singing ‘keep Ruben’ and we’re doing everything on that front to keep him.

“Ruben has started the season with us and we have a great relationship.

“It’s easy to work with him, he understands a lot of things – not just about him but the team – he’s a great professional and he wants to keep learning and improving.

“And during last season, every challenge he was given he worked to meet it and I am so happy he’s staying with us.”

Frank – Ten Hag a “brilliant manager”

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has heaped praise on Erik ten Hag ahead of Manchester United's trip to the Bees tomorrow.

But the Danish gaffer has put pressure on the Red Devils, claiming they “can't afford not to win” the match.

Frank said: “I don’t think there is an ideal time. In general, I don’t believe in if it’s a perfect situation to play them in or a bad situation to play them in.

“But one thing is for sure, they’ve got a new manager, a brilliant manager, I think he’s done a fantastic job in his earlier jobs, so they’re very interested in doing everything they can to make it a success with the players.

“They lost the first game, so if you lost a game the most common response is to really want to improve and do well. So it’s going to be extremely difficult tomorrow.

“I think there is no doubt that Manchester United are favourites, they can’t afford not to win against us tomorrow.”

    Alv some of that

Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Atletico Madrid about potentially signing Alvaro Morata.

The Red Devils are desperate for reinforcements up top with Cristiano Ronaldo eager to leave and Anthony Martial out injured.

United walked away from possibly signing Mark Arnautovic in midweek, partly due to the backlash from fans.

And now signing Morata is a “genuine possibility”, according to The Athletic.

Talks have taken place between the Red Devils and Atletico over a deal for the 29-year-old Spaniard.

The LaLiga side would be willing to sell for around £30million.

A loan switch is also a possibility, but Morata is expected to demand a large weekly wage if he is recruited by United.

    Forest still keen on Garner

Nottingham Forest reportedly remain keen on bringing James Garner back to the City Ground.

The 21-year-old played a starring role on loan there last season, helping Steve Cooper's side gain promotion to the Premier League.

He also spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan in the East Midlands.

And Forest still have a “lingering interest” in signing the midfielder, according to The Athletic, after being linked with him earlier in the window.

Garner was an unused substitute for the Red Devils in their 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday.

    United eyeing Alex McCarthy

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy as Erik ten Hag seeks to replace Dean Henderson, writes JACK ROSSER.

United already have Tom Heaton on their books but Ten Hag wants a goalkeeper who is more capable of providing David de Gea with a challenge.

De Gea remains the No1 at Old Trafford, but Saints stopper McCarthy, 32, is on the shortlist to be his understudy.

The one-cap England international signed a new three-year-deal at St. Mary's last term but has been bumped to No2 on the south coast by 20-year-old new signing Gavin Bazunu – despite Fraser Forster leaving the club.

No official approach has been made to Southampton at this stage and sources are unsure whether United will make a move given what is described as a scatter-gun approach to business this summer.

    United in Joao Gomes blow

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Flamengo star Joao Gomes.

Brazilian outlet Coluna do Fla say the Red Devils are ready to splash £32million to sign the 21-year-old midfielder.

But the United might have a hard time convincing Gomes to head to Old Trafford.

The samba star has admitted his “greatest desire” is to play for United's bitter rivals Liverpool.

Gomes told ESPN Brazil: “Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play”

“Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”

    Ronaldo on Ballon d'Or shortlist

Cristiano Ronaldo has once again made the shortlist for the prestigious men's Ballon d'Or award.

The Manchester United ace has won it five times before, and will be dreaming of a sixth after his 24 goal return last season.

Although his former Real Madrid team-mate Karim Benzema is the hot favourite to win the prize.

But surprisingly seven-times winner Lionel Messi is NOT on the shortlist.

CR7 is the only Manchester United player to be nominated.

Meanwhile six from Liverpool, five from Manchester City, and two from Tottenham have all made the cut.

    Murtough meeting in Turin 'positive'

Manchester United football director John Murtough held talks with Adrien Rabiot's mother and agent Veronique today.

And the outcome of the discussions was “positive”, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It's claimed both parties are still working on what wages the Frenchman will be on if he joins the Red Devils.

A number is yet to be agreed, but talks on the figure are said to be ongoing.

Parker – United “desperately” need striker

Former Manchester United star Paul Parker has revealed the club “desperately” need to sign a striker.

Cristiano Ronaldo is desperate to leave the club, while Anthony Martial is currently sidelined by injury.

And Parker told Betfred: “[Erik ten Hag] desperately needs a striker – I think we’ve seen this already – just for confidence on the pitch and belief from the fans as well.

“They want to see a new face. They want to see a face that they can believe in, rather than looking at the same players who have come out at the start of every season, year in, year out.

He added: “Everyone’s watching them. If you hate Manchester United, you’ll be watching what’s going on because you want a laugh. If you love Manchester United then I think you’d want to cry.

“They’re not seeing anything positive. They’re not getting anything they can believe in. They do not think Manchester United are going to get a player that they wanted from day one.

“They’re believing that Manchester United are going to take somebody just for the sake of getting somebody.”

Manchester United football director John Murtough has been spotted at Torino airport this afternoon.

Erik ten Hag will be without Anthony Martial and Victor Linedlof for tomorrow's trip to Brentford.

Martial missed the season opener against Brighton with a hamstring problem.

Lindelof meanwhile picked up a knock in training the week leading up to the Brighton game.

But it remains to be seen whether Cristiano Ronaldo will be promoted from the bench to the starting line-up.

The Austrian international is into the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga side.

Kalajdzic, 25, wants to move to Old Trafford, according to Sky Sports.

The striker has scored 24 goals in 58 games for Stuttgart.

    Pellistri injury update

Eeik ten Hag has revealed talented youngster Facundo Pellistri will be out of action until September.

The 20-year-old injured his ankle in United's pre-season game against Oslo.

And the injury has impacted his chances of going out on loan for valuable first-team experience.

When asked if the injury had affected his chances of a loan switch, Ten Hag said: “Yes, I think so, because he’s injured.

“The prognosis is that he will not return before September.”

Merson – Man Utd eyeing “Primark” players

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has slammed Manchester United for targeting “Primark” players in the transfer market.

The Red Devils walked away from signing Mark Arnautovic following backlash from fans.

In his column for the Daily Star, Merson wrote: “Manchester United should be shopping in Harrods, not Primark for players like Marko Arnautovic.

“I’m not surprised the fans kicked up a fuss about that and got the club to think again because Arnautovic is not good enough for United.

“I don’t know what is going on at Old Trafford but they are making the same old mistakes time and time again in the transfer market.

“The fans must be thinking: ‘What is going on here?’ and you can’t really blame them. They got beaten at home by Brighton and it was the same old story.”

The Red Devils are in talks with the Spaniards over a potential move, according to Sport.

And it's claimed United are prepared to send Diogo Dalot the other way in order to strike a deal.

Barca reportedly value the USA international at £17million.

    Hag knock life

Former Manchester United star Paul Parker has suggested Erik ten Hag has now “found out the reality” of the job on his hands after last week's defeat to Brighton.

Speaking to Betfred, Parker said: “I think he’s found out the reality of it; that it’s really difficult to work for Manchester United.

    “2-1 flattered them [against Brighton].

“As much as he talks about the second-half performance saying they started well, 2-1 flattered them, because Brighton – a team that had no new signings, lost their main player in [Yves] Bissouma in midfield – were the better team with the ball and without the ball throughout that game.

“He’s suddenly found out now because he’s seen the situation of Man United trying to bring in players; he sees all the difficulties every manager before him has had.”

    Pre-match stat attack

The Red Devils may be reeling after last week's defeat to Brighton, but these stats ahead of tomorrow's trip to Brentford certainly bode well.

The Bees have only earned one point from six top-flight meetings with United since beating them twice in the 1936-37 season.

Thomas Frank's side lost home and away to the Red Devils in the last campaign.

And United's most recent defeat to the Londoners was an FA Cup fifth round clash all the way back in February 1938.

United still keen on a keeper

Manchester United are also keen on recruiting a goalkeeper this summer after Dean Henderson joined Nottingham Forest, reports suggest.

Tom Heaton is the current backup to David De Gea.

United though are keen to bring someone in between the sticks who can challenge the Spaniard for the No1 spot, according to The Athletic.

And funds will be made available to do exactly that if a target is sounded out.

Leeds stopper Ilan Meslier is reportedly being eyed as the long-term replacement for De Gea, but the Whites will not sell the Frenchman this summer.

    Striker search finds new target

Manchester United are now reportedly interested in PSG striker Mauro Icardi.

The Red Devils remain on the lookout for an attacker after walking away from a deal for Mark Arnautovic.

And now Icardi, 29, is on the agenda, according to TyCSports in Argentina.

A loan deal with an option to buy has been mooted by the Argentinian outlet.

Although Galatasaray are also believed to be interested in Icardi, with PSG desperate for him to leave.

    Will Ronaldo return tomorrow?

Erik ten Hag has hinted that Cristiano Ronaldo could return to the starting line-up for tomorrow's trip to Brentford.

Anthony Martial remains sidelined by injury, leaving the Red Devils without an out and out striker.

Ten Hag said on Ronaldo today: “So he had a good training week. I thought he played a little bit longer than half an hour.

“He’s had two half games and for the starting XI we will see tomorrow. My decision [on starting Ronaldo], I keep it.”

    Frank excited for Eriksen return

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is “looking forward” to being reunited with Christian Eriksen tomorrow.

The Danish playmaker is set to face his former club in United colours tomorrow evening.

And Frank said: “I am looking forward to seeing him again.

“I look forward to giving him a hug and asking him how his family is, then I look forward to competing against him on the pitch and afterwards hopefully we will have three points and he will have zero, but we will see.

“I think no doubt with his qualities, you could also see it in the last game – I know he was used in two different positions during the game.

“Obviously his quality on the ball is key and we know we can’t give him too much time because he can see the ball between lines, he can see the ball behind and has the quality to put it on a string for any player.”

    Utd failed to hijack Werner

Man Utd reportedly failed in a last-ditch attempt to hijack Timo Werner's Chelsea exit.

Werner, 26, returned to former club RB Leipzig for £25million – just two years after joining Chelsea for £45m.

The German's time at Chelsea was largely hit and miss, with his poor finishing causing lots of frustration among The Blues faithful.

However, United were convinced enough to make an 11th hour bid to try and hijack his move back to Germany, according to Manchester Evening News.

United have had a torrid time in the transfer window this week, with deals for Marko Arnautovic and Adrien Rabiot being met with huge backlash from fans.

Additionally, a move for former RB Salzburg forward Benjamin Sesko also fell flat due to him signing for Leipzig just a few weeks after meeting with United football director John Murtough.

United are now lining up a move to sign wantaway Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech according to MEN's report, with the Moroccan a former player under Erik ten Hag while at Ajax.

    Two-way battle for Sergino Dest

Man Utdare set to offer Barcelona a swap in order to sign right-back Sergino Dest.

The Red Devils hope to use Diogo Dalot as a makeweight to sign Dest.

United want to steal a march on Premier League rivals Chelsea, who also want to sign the American.

However, Barcelona don't want to do a swap deal, and prefer a cash option of £17million.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Dest is on the club's for sale list after failing to convince since his move from Ajax in 2020.

Dest broke into the Ajax first team under Erik ten Hag's tenure, so it makes sense why United would harbour an interest in him.

However, United's attempts to swap Dalot with the American are set to fall flat due to Barcelona having no interest in the Portuguese defender.
