Melaka ready for monsoon transition, says Rais Yasin

MELAKA: Melaka is ready to brace the monsoon transition which started on March 29, said Datuk Rais Yasin.

The state housing, local government and disaster management committee chairman said the state government has placed early preparation mechanisms to monitor the weather changes by holding discussions with the National Disaster Management Agency and Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

“We are always in touch with MetMalaysia and other related agencies to check on situations relating to the weather, so that we can alert the affected locals at once.

“As for now there have been no incidents of severe flooding or other related natural disasters in the state, so far,” he said after hosting a Hari Raya open house at his Paya Rumput constituency held at the Krubong Community Sports Complex here on Thursday (April 11).

The media recently quoted MetMalaysia director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah as saying that the hot and dry weather presently experienced across the country is expected to gradually ease by the middle of this month.

Muhammad Helmi said that this follows the beginning of the monsoon transition phase, which is expected to start from March 29 and continue until May, marking the end of the North-East Monsoon, which began on Nov 11 last year.
