Watering Hole, Perranporth
A man in his 30s has died at a popular beach bar in Cornwall. Emergency services were called to the Watering Hole at Perranporth Beach this morning after receiving reports of a concern for the man’s welfare, a police spokesperson has confirmed.
However, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Emergency services were called at around 9.30am to Perranporth Beach following reports of concern for the welfare of a man. The man, in his 30s, was confirmed deceased at the scene.
“His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
The Watering Hole, a popular bar on the beach, has shared a post on Facebook saying it will be closed today and tomorrow, on Mother’s Day. It has not confirmed why it is closing, however, dozens of comments expressing sympathy have been shared on the post. Management have told CornwallLive they do not wish to comment at this time.

One person commented on the Facebook post: “Clearly some sad news … watering hole is one of our favourite places so sending best wishes to the team.”
While another added: “What has happened must be pretty serious, so sending my best wishes your way, and hope for much better days ahead.”
Someone else wrote: “We’ve no idea what’s happened, thoughts are with everyone at this sad time.” A fourth said: “Sorry to see there is sad news, thinking of everyone there.”
The Watering Hole is famed for being the UK’s ‘only bar on the beach’ and last year made a list of the best beer gardens in the country. It is a beach bar, restaurant, live music venue – the works – and, the entire pub is nestled right on the beach itself. Perranporth Beach is also home to the well-known Tunes and the Dunes festival, which has grown into one of the biggest entertainment businesses in the South West.
