Lymphomas are malignant neoplasms of white blood cells (lymphocytes), and Hodgkin’s lymphoma is one of the existing types of lymphomas, characterized by the presence of specific cell types that progressively affect contiguous lymph nodes. Depending on the tumor subtype, the treatment proposal can be curative. After disease remission is achieved (disease involution with no detectable tumor after adequate treatment) patients need to be closely monitored for the risk of disease relapse as well as treatment-associated complications and at these follow-up appointments the patient will be asked about symptoms and physically examined, as well as imaging tests may be requested that will make it possible to assess a possible recurrence (return or relapse) of the disease. The time between medical appointments may vary depending on the time that has elapsed since the remission of the disease, but in general, there is a consensus that the patient should be followed up for a long time, even more than 5 years after the remission of the disease. In case of recurrence, the patient must be staged and again the treatment options will depend on the type and stage of the tumor.

If Hodgkin’s lymphoma has come back you might start noticing symptoms like new or bigger lumps formation on several parts of the body. More generalised symptoms like fevers, night sweat and weight loss can also occur. In such cases HL can still be curable with an alloSCT ( Allogenic stem cell transplantation). The procedure has many side effects but the chances of recurrence of cancer is less likely.

Recurrence of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is suspected when signs and symptoms of the disease recur, characterized by fatigue, generalized itching, fever, night sweats, and weight loss. In this case, a new treatment is indicated, initially with chemotherapy, and radiotherapy or transplantation may be indicated.
