‘Malayalee From India’ makers were aware of script similarities, claims scriptwriter Nishad Koya
Nivin Pauly’s latest film, ‘Malayalee From India,’ has found itself embroiled in a controversy surrounding allegations of stolen screenplay. Directed by Dijo Jose Antony, the film hit theaters on May 1, sparking discussions within the entertainment industry over the authenticity of its storyline.
Scriptwriter Nishad Koya has come forward with claims that the screenplay of ‘Malayalee From India’ bears striking similarities to a script he penned in 2021. A day before the film’s release, Nishad took to Facebook to express his grievances, providing a detailed outline of his script’s plotline. However, his post mysteriously disappeared just hours before the movie premiered.

Listin Stephen, responding to the allegations, asserted that the Film Producers Association had intervened, urging Nishad to remove the Facebook post. Stephen criticized Nishad’s approach, suggesting that he should have addressed his concerns through proper channels rather than resorting to social media.
In defense, Nishad Koya revealed that he had alerted director Dijo Jose Antony about the similarities in the scripts over a year ago. He recounted the origin of his script, originally intended for Jayasuriya in the lead role and to be directed by Joshiy. However, despite initial progress, the project encountered obstacles, leading to its eventual abandonment. Nishad asserted that he refrained from registering the script formally due to its shelving but maintains evidence of its conception dating back to 2019, including emails outlining its development.
The disputed script, tentatively titled ‘Indo-Pak,’ forms the basis of Nishad’s claims against the makers of ‘Malayalee From India.’
Meanwhile, during the press meet which was conducted on the last day, Listin Stephen said that the film had been badly affected due to Nishad’s claims on ‘Malayalee from India’.
