Luxury restaurants in Norway are struggling to find employees

Luxury restaurants in Norway are struggling to find employees

Several of Norway’s most exclusive restaurants are fully booked throughout the summer but are struggling to find enough employees due to the corona measures.

The entry restrictions still make it difficult for restaurants to get the workforce they need.

“I would say that 30% of the restaurant workers in Oslo, actually even on a national basis, have been people who do not live in Norway,” award-winning chef Bent Stiansen told the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv.

He runs Statholdergaarden in the middle of the capital and is sounding the alarm on behalf of the industry. He believes the industry is struggling to find enough staffing to meet the current demands.

NHO’s position

From July 5, Norway switched to following the EU’s threshold values for quarantine exemptions and thus opened up for increased entry. NHO believes that Norway should have made the change earlier.

“Then the companies could bring in employees before the visits picked up… Now, we may have ended up a little behind,” business policy specialist Ole Michael Bjørndal in the NHO noted.

The Norwegian government will assess whether to introduce stage four in the reopening plan at the end of July.
