Luiz, Buendia, Bailey - Aston Villa injury and team news latest ahead of Arsenal clash

Asia's Tech News Daily

The Premier League game against Wolves ultimately ended in disappointment for Aston Villa.

With 10 minutes of the game to play, Villa were 2-0 up and looked to be heading for their fourth win of the season. However, a late fightback from Bruno Lage’s side saw Wolves take all three points from the game.

Ruben Neves’ deflected free kick in the 95th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Eyes now turn to Villa’s next Premier League game as they look to bounce back. Dean Smith‘s men travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal on Friday night.

Ahead of that game, here’s the early injury news from Bodymoor Heath.

Douglas Luiz and Emiliano Buendia

Both were taken off in the second half of the game against Wolves, with Smith saying that they were both tiring.

“We weren’t sure Douglas would last as long as he did (67 minutes), so we just felt in that period it was the right time to bring Marvelous Nakamba on,” he said of Luiz, who played for Brazil just 36 hours earlier.

“Buendia also ran himself into the ground and asked to come off as well,” he added.

“He had nothing left in him. (Ramsey) was the natural one to come on.”

Both players are expected to be fit to start against Arsenal on Friday.

Bertrand Traore

Injury: Thigh.

Target return date: Arsenal, October 22

What we know: Traore flew out to Burkina Faso for his side’s two World Cup qualifiers against Djibouti but he didn’t play in the first game because of guidance around isolating. He missed the second because of a thigh injury.

What Smith said: “He picked up a bit of a thigh injury which the medical staff are assessing at the moment. He didn’t train with us yesterday. I’m not sure if he’ll make it tomorrow, I’m waiting for the OK from the medical staff.”

Leon Bailey

Injury: Quad.

Target return date: Arsenal, October 22

What we know: Bailey picked up the injury in the 3-0 win over Everton last month and Smith hoped he would be ready to return against Wolves on Saturday. Bailey hasn’t been given the green light yet though.

What Smith said: “Leon Bailey hasn’t ticked all the right boxes for the medical staff yet. We’re hopeful he’ll be ready for the Arsenal game.”

Morgan Sanson

Injury: Hamstring.

Target return date: Arsenal, October 22

What we know: Sanson was substituted shortly before half-time in the Chelsea game last month but Smith confirmed in his pre-Wolves press conference that the Frenchman has returned to training.

What Smith said: “We don’t believe it’s going to be a bad one, he actually carried on for two or three minutes after, which proves to me it’s not a bad one. He was building up his game minutes, so really frustrated for him but it will only be a small step backwards, that’s for sure.”

Trezeguet

Injury: Knee.

Target return date: N/A

What we know: Villa are expecting Trezeguet back at some point this season after he underwent surgery on a serious knee injury in April.

What Smith said: “He’s had a significant knee injury which is normally nine months. We never like to put a time frame on injuries, but that’s the average time to come back. Some come back earlier, some come back later.”

Keinan Davis

Injury: Unspecified.

Target return date: November

What we know: Davis picked up the injury in pre-season, reportedly scuppering a loan move to Stoke City, but is out of a brace and on the road to recovery.

Smith has confirmed Davis is back in training but he’ll need some time to build up his fitness before he’s considered for selection.
