OBCs, Dalits & tribals are 73% but don’t own any of top 200 firms in India: Rahul Gandhi

PRAYAGRAJ: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said OBCs, Dalits and tribals constitute 73% of the population but not even one of the top 200 companies in India is owned by them.

Addressing a gathering during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Prayagraj, he said the caste census is an X-ray of the country which would “reveal everything”.

“Caste census is your (youth’s) weapon and you have to find out what is your population,” he told the gathering at the Lakshmi Talkies intersection near Allahabad University.

“Out of top 90 govt officials in the central govt, barely three or four belong to OBC, Dalit or tribal communities,” he said.

The Congress MP alleged that not a single person from the OBC or tribal category was invited at the Ayodhya consecration ceremony on Jan 22.

During the yatra, many students stood holding placards against exam paper leak. The Congress MP said, “Leaking of papers of a competitive exam was a ploy to stop OBC, Dalits and tribals from qualifying such exams.” He also accused central govt of waiving loans of big industrialists but not those of farmers.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi resumed his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra at Anand Bhawan, the ancestral house of the Nehru-Gandhi family in Prayagraj, after returning from his constituency Wayanad on Sunday afternoon. He had halted the yatra in Varanasi on Saturday and rushed to Wayanad where a forest guide was trampled to death by a wild tusker.

On the third day of yatra’s UP leg, Rahul moved in an open jeep along with a crowd of supporters including party leaders and workers. The yatra passed through Colonelganj, AU crossing, Netram Crossing, Teliyarganj, Phaphamau and other localities.

After an overnight stay at Sakramau in Mauaima, the yatra will enter Pratapgarh on Monday morning and his former constituency Amethi later in the day.
