Love Island fans dub it ‘too London’ as they ask ‘where are the farmers’

Three days into this year’s series of Love Island, fans of the show have dubbed it ‘London Island’. Noticing that the bulk of the summer 2023 stars so far seemed to hail from London and the surrounding areas, many fans couldn’t resist calling out the show as they asked “Where are the farmers?”

The main argument stemmed from the fact that there were plenty of London accents on offer this year, but a distinct lack of regional flair from the majority of the Islanders. Although we know so far there are contestants hailing from outside the capital, many fans had been hoping for a more varied set of accents among the lovelorn hopefuls.

Taking to Twitter to vent their frustrations, many fans didn’t hold back as they called out the show for not showing places such as Liverpool, Newcastle and even the West Country more love. “This love island is too London rn, where the Essex guys, farmers ? LOL,” complained one disgruntled viewer.

A second fan also agreed as they lamented: “Nah I’m hearing too much London this year. Where are all the regional accents pls?” A third viewer then echoed the sentiment as they wrote: “It’s too London centric. It’s London Island this year!”

A fourth commented: “Too many london accents pls where are the farmers #LoveIsland.”

So far, 5 of the 11 Islanders in the villa all hail from London leading many fans to call for more regional variation

It wasn’t just the accents themselves that some viewers took issue with, but the language choice itself, with several islanders heard using London slang during their first few days on the show. “This show is too London too much slang going on,” complained another viewer.

Not everyone was against it however, with one delighted viewer sharing a more positive slant on this year’s batch of contestants. They wrote: “South London accents are just too sexy I’m sorry. It cannot be helped.”

A second viewer then added: “Londoners REALLY sound like Londoners. I can’t explain it fully but the accent is so strong.”

Things could soon change however with more bombshells expected to enter the villa in the coming weeks

Before a third commented: “nah I changed my mind. Turns out I just like an accent that don’t sound like a farmer.”

So far this series, of the 11 Islanders in the villa so far, five hail from London, with some Scottish and Irish representation also present with two stars hailing from Glasgow and Dublin respectively. Thanks to the current line-up, the South is still dominating this year’s contestants so far, but as regular viewers will know, that may all soon change in the coming days with the arrival of more bombshells hoping to find love in the sun soaked villa.
