‘Big concern’: Labor more interested in ‘protecting its reputation’ than borders

One Nation Chief of Staff James Ashby says the arrival of 12 people in mainland Australia from an undetected Indonesian boat is a “big concern”.

Aboriginal people from an isolated stretch of the WA coast have saved a group of people who arrived undetected on a boat from Indonesia.

“You’ve got a Labor government more interested in protecting its reputation than it is protecting our borders here in Australia,” Mr Ashby said.

Mr Ashby has slammed the government for its claim that the 12 people will not be given permanent residency, calling it “a load of rubbish”.

Opposition leader Peter Dutton labelled the saga a “catastrophic failure” with the Coalition pressuring the government to explain how the arrival happened.
