Look: Decision Made On Novak Djokovic's Appeal Over Vaccine Status

look: decision made on novak djokovic's appeal over vaccine status

MONTE-CARLO, MONACO – APRIL 18: Novak Djokovic of Serbia celebrates to the crowd after his straight set victory against Taylor Fritz of the United states in their third round match during day five of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters at Monte-Carlo Country Club on April 18, 2019 in Monte-Carlo, Monaco. Novak Djokovic will not be able to compete in the Miami Open next week due to his vaccine status.

Tournament director James Blake claims they tried to get an exemption for Djokovic to enter the United States without being vaccinated against COVID-19.

“We tried to get Novak Djokovic to be allowed to get an exemption, but that wasn’t able to happen,” Blake told Tennis Channel, via ESPN. “Obviously, we’re one of the premier tournaments in the world. We’d like to have the best players that can play. We did all that we could. We tried to talk to the government, but that’s out of our hands.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis urged the Biden administration to allow Djokovic to enter the United States.

Djokovic, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, is also missing the Indian Wells Masters in California for the same reason.

The expectation is that Djokovic will make his return at the Monte Carlo Masters event in April.

Djokovic will then begin his preparation for the French Open.
