londoners debate what's inside the strange yellow boxes popping up around the city but there's a very simple explanation

One of the strange yellow boxes in London

A curious Londoner has spotted some ‘strange’ yellow boxes popping up around the city and has been left pondering what they are. While there is a very simple explanation, they were given some hilarious answers to their question.

The Londoner took to Reddit to query the appearance of these boxes and was curious as to their use. The bizarre metal boxes are bright yellow and come up to calf height on an average adult. They appear to have an opening to the front and are a similar shape to a bungalow.

The user wrote: “I’ve noticed these popping up around London. What are they?” Whilst they quickly received a sensible reply informing them them that they are, “temporary covers for telco cabinets that are part way through being installed”, others offered some highly amusing alternatives.

One person commented: “You can pay to watch people’s feet go by.” Another joked about the state of the London housing market claiming: “Thought they were the latest style studio flat”.

Someone else suggested: “A postbox before it’s properly ripened yet. Give it some time”. Another person rather darkly joked: “Public use coffins.”

One person commented: “Machine gun nests for cats”, with someone replying below: “They don’t need machine guns. They just swipe your ankles when you least expect it.”

It’s not the first time these boxes have been mistaken for something else with one person claiming: “Moved out of London to a small town recently – there were a few of these around and people started laying flowers on them, and it became a local joke with people making up bizarre backstories for those ‘buried’ there and how they met their demise.” Someone else simply claimed: “Pizza ovens”.
