Die Londoner Polizei hat einen Mann mit einem Schwert festgenommen, nachdem mehrere Menschen verletzt worden sein sollen. Die Polizei sei am Dienstagmorgen alarmiert worden, teilte die Metropolitan Police mit.

Ihnen sei gemeldet worden, dass ein Fahrzeug in ein Gebäude im östlichen Stadtteil Hainault gefahren sei. »Es wurde berichtet, dass mehrere Menschen niedergestochen wurden.«

Der Verdächtige habe womöglich Bürger und zwei Polizeibeamte angegriffen. »Wir warten noch auf Informationen zum Zustand derjenigen, die verletzt wurden«, hieß es in der Polizeimitteilung. Ein 36-Jähriger sei festgenommen worden. Die Ermittler gehen derzeit nicht von Terrorverdacht aus.

Fünf Personen im Krankenhaus

Der London Rettungsdienst teilte mit, dass die Rettungskräfte fünf Personen behandelten und ins Krankenhaus brachten.

»Das muss ein schrecklicher Vorfall gewesen sein für die Betroffenen«, teilte Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan mit. »Wir gehen nicht davon aus, dass eine andauernde Gefahr für die Allgemeinheit besteht.« Die Polizei suche keine weiteren Verdächtigen.

Der britische Innenminister James Cleverly teilte über X mit, er werde regelmäßig über den Vorfall informiert. »Meine Gedanken sind bei den Betroffenen.«
