Lok Sabha Elections: Comedian Shyam Rangeela to contest against PM Modi in Varanasi
Comedian Shyam Rangeela, known for his mimicry of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will make his political debut by running against him for the Varanasi Parliamentary seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
The 29-year-old comedian from Rajasthan declared his candidacy for the Lok Sabha polls in Varanasi.
Speaking to The Indian Express, he stated that he is running to ensure that “democracy lives on.” Rangeela affirmed that he will wholeheartedly participate in the electoral process and intends to file his nomination papers in Varanasi this weekend.
He emphasised that his decision to contest the Lok Sabha elections is not merely symbolic but a commitment to uphold democracy.
Rangeela further asserted, “Even if everyone else withdraws their nomination papers in Varanasi, mine will still remain”.
PM Modi, who has served two terms as MP from Varanasi, is seeking reelection for a third term. Varanasi is scheduled to vote in the eighth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1.
