Mohamed Salah truly has been on a different playing field this year.
His goal-of-the-season contending strikes against Manchester City and Watford, that saw him send numerous defenders on a merry jig before burying the ball in the back of the net, are testament to that fact.
His hat-trick at Old Trafford was just the cherry on top of what has been a thoroughly enjoyable cake so far this season and it is only expected to get better.
In truth, it would be hard to argue with the claim that Salah is the best player on the planet right now after his remarkable antics in recent weeks.
The Egyptian King has scored 15 goals in all competitions for Liverpool so far while also registering 5 assists – a combined tally that see’s him in the top three on the list for goal contributions in Europe this season.
He is integral to everything good about Liverpool and is without a doubt one of their most important players.
Contract negotiations prove tricky for new Salah deal
It seems odd then, that the two parties have struggled to come to an accord over the terms of a new contract for the speedster.
Salah will be entering the final two years of his Anfield deal in the coming summer but has yet to follow in the footsteps of several of his senior colleagues by extending his stay at the club.
Wage demands are thought to be one of the sticking points, with Salah believed to be asking for a number that exceeds what exists within the shrewd, or some may say, frugal, FSG wage structure.
Liverpools’ clever solution
However, as negotiations rumble on, there appears to finally be some light at the end of the tunnel, with TEAMtalk reporting that Liverpool may have come up with a clever solution to the problem.
The publication claims that Liverpool have tabled on offer that boasts a lucrative signing on fee that could prove to be the breakthrough we have all been waiting for.
With FSG concerns over Salah’s age, the signing on fee means they get to hold onto their talisman, without locking themselves into a long term deal that would bind them to a monstrous wage bill, even if Salah’s on field returns should diminish.
It also shows Salah that he is valued at the club he loves.
This development will come as music to the ears of Liverpool fans, who have been desperate for positive news with regards to Salah’s long term future on Merseyside.
The man himself seems desperate to stay, only last week stating that he would love to end his career at the club.
Should he be tempted by Liverpool’s clever negotiating tactic, then that might be a genuine possibility.Internet Explorer Channel Network
