Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur
17:27
Liverpool have created a host of chances since the game got under way, producing 2.27 expected goals (xG) from 14 shots, with eight of those being on target. It’s been the opposition for Spurs, who have managed just one shot with an expected goals tally of 0.04. Tottenham have touched the ball inside the opposition box seven times, with Alisson not having a save to make. It’s going to be a tricky task for Postecoglou’s side to get back into this one, with Opta’s live win probability calculator suggesting they have a 0.8 per cent chance of securing the three points. A Liverpool victory is looking likely at 94.9 per cent, while a draw stands at 4.3 per cent. The Spurs boss will be disappointed with what he’s seen so far, so early changes after the break wouldn’t be a surprise, especially with Maddison, Richarlison, and Hojbjerg on the bench.

Liverpool go into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead over Tottenham at Anfield. The Reds have dominated proceedings so far, and Spurs might count themselves lucky not to be losing by a greater margin. After just nine minutes, Vicario was forced into a save by Salah before the rebound fell to Elliott, and his effort was blocked on the line by Romero. Klopp’s side took the lead later in the half as Gakpo cut inside from the left before floating a cross to the back post, and Salah arrived unmarked to head it home. Liverpool continued to push for a second with Postecoglou’s men showing little attacking threat throughout, and they doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time. Salah’s shot from inside the box was parried away by Vicario, but Robertson was in the right place at the right time to tuck it home. The away side have a mountain to climb in the second half!

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to complete their first league double over Liverpool since the 2010-11 season, beating two different Reds managers that campaign (Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish). Their last league double over the Reds beating the same manager twice was in Dalglish’s first spell in 1986-87. Ange Postecoglou’s side currently find themselves sitting in fifth place in the Premier League table, seven points behind Aston Villa in fourth. Tottenham haven’t lost any of their last six away Premier League games on a Sunday (W2 D4), with their last such defeat coming at Anfield against Liverpool in April 2023.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost their last two home games in all competitions, as many as in their previous 57 combined. They’ve failed to score in both defeats, last losing three in a row without reply at Anfield in March 2021. Liverpool have kept just one clean sheet in their last 14 Premier League matches, including none in their last eight since beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 in March. The Reds last went longer without a shutout within a single season in the league from October to December 2004 (9).
