The final round of the Masters is about to get underway Sunday at Augusta National as a crowded pack of contenders pursues the green jacket. Scottie Scheffler enters the action with a one-shot lead at 7 under after an up-and-down third round. Collin Morikawa sits one shot back, with Max Homa another stroke behind in third at 5 under. Five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods was looking to end the weekend on a high after shooting an 82 on Saturday, the worst round of his Masters career. But his struggles remained on Sunday morning.

Reports from Augusta suggest the course has softened a bit now that the wind is gone, suggesting scoring could be a little better. Tom Kim is working on the round of the day at 3 under through 10, and there are a few players out there at 2 under, including Corey Conners, Keegan Bradley, Si Woo Kim and Camilo Villegas.

Masters 2024 live updates: Scottie Scheffler takes one-shot lead into final round
There are still 18 holes to be played, but the list of things that can derail Scottie Scheffler’s quest for a second green jacket isn’t long. One of them: a call from back home in Dallas.
Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, are expecting their first child. With a due date in late April, Meredith stayed home this week, and Scheffler says he’d withdraw from the Masters if she happens to go into labor during Sunday’s final round.
He’s already sorted through the logistics, and even though cellphones aren’t technically allowed on the course, Scheffler has a plan.
“I definitely have a way to get home pretty quickly. We have somebody here that has access to their cellphone, if that’s all right,” he said, turning to an Augusta National member and smiling. “Yes, I’ll be available to go home then whenever I need to.”
Would she actually call mid-round?
“She better call,” Scheffler said following his round Saturday.
Meredith was, of course, on the course for Scheffler’s first Masters win in 2022, both very aware of the stakes. Scheffler has credited his wife for a morning pep talk that calmed his nerves.
“I cried like a baby this morning,” he said shortly after he won that tournament. “I was so stressed out. I didn’t know what to do. I was sitting there telling Meredith, ‘I don’t think I’m ready for this. I’m not ready, I don’t feel like I’m ready for this kind of stuff,’ and I just felt overwhelmed. She told me, ‘Who are you to say that you are not ready?’ Who am I to say that I know what’s best for my life?”
Two years later, Scheffler begins the day here with a one-shot lead over Collin Morikawa. Even without his wife in Augusta this week, he feels differently this time around.
“Now I think we have settled more into where our lives are at, and right now the most exciting thing is not winning the Masters, it’s [the] baby coming pretty soon,” Scheffler said. “Things are a lot different now, and I feel like we’ve both matured.”
“I think a lot of that emotion from Sunday morning a few years ago was more about just how quickly our life was changing and it was more of, are we ready for this type of thing. Yeah, that’s when Mer gave me that nice speech and here we are.”
