Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez ahead of the January transfer window opening in under five weeks’ time.
Reports claim that the 24-year-old centre-back is on Steven Gerrard’s radar with the new Villa boss tipped to raid his former club, according to the Sunday Mirror, via the Express.
The report adds that Gerrard has made signing a new defender a ‘priority’ for the January window and is ‘actively looking’ for potential targets.
But Liverpool fans think Jurgen Klopp rates Gomez too highly to let him leave the club, especially after Liverpool’s defensive injury crisis last season.
@ georgeoxn : Can’t see that happening at all. I know he hasn’t had many minutes this season, but he’s still a vital part of this squad. Klopp won’t forget that, Gomez is valued highly here.
@ bayowaaaa : No pleasee, he’s very much in our plans
@ JasonLFC1979 : No way we let him go! It would be silly with our cb injury history
@ DiogoJotaFC20 : We need him to stay we can’t have a repeat of last season
@ JamieBell97 : Very good move for him and Villa but unfortunately think the CB injury crisis of last season is too fresh in the #LFC memory. JoGo may have fallen down the pecking order but no doubt Klopp still rates him and wouldn’t want to lose such a versatile, proven player mid-season.
@ dboetan7i : We need Gomez
@ LFCMATTHEW96 : No? We need Joey
@ mobo20130563 : No way. We need as much depth as possible
